Essential oils to relieve eczema
What is eczema?
Eczema is the most common skin disease. It is characterized by a non-contagious inflammation of the skin which is accompanied by redness, fine blisters, scales and itching. It affects adults and children, even infants.
How to relieve eczema with essential oils?
Several essential oils are indicated to relieve the symptoms of eczema:
- Peppermint essential oil (mentha piperita): rub the affected part with 2 or 3 drops of essential oil diluted in lukewarm water or vegetable oil. It should not be applied near the respiratory tract in children under 4 years old.
- German chamomile essential oil (matricaria recutita): it is close to Roman chamomile (anthemis nobilis) but it is richer in aluzene, a powerful anti-inflammatory1. It is effective in preventing and destroying fungal infections, eliminating bacteria, reducing inflammation and facilitating wound healing. It helps to treat not only eczema but also cuts, herpes, blisters, burns, boils etc.
- Geranium essential oil (Pelargonium graveolens): it has antiseptic properties and accelerates the healing of wounds.
Eczema usually shows up under stress, so finding time to relax and unwind is essential to improving the effectiveness of treatments.
