Essential oils for this summer
Essential oils, powerful repellents
Lemon eucalyptus essential oil (ET) (Eucalyptus citriodora) is the one most often recommended as a repellant and as a curative treatment against mosquito bites. Peppermint (Mentha piperita) may also be recommended to relieve stings.
Blends of essential oils are also very effective. Here are 2 mosquito repellants recipes to apply every hour directly to the skin:
- Recipe 1:
2ml of lemongrass essential oil (Cymbopogon Nardus)
2ml HE of pink geranium (Pelargonium graveolens)
2ml EO of lemon eucalyptus (Eucalyptus citriodora)
25 ml of hazelnut vegetable oil in addition to make 30 ml of the mixture1.
- 2 Recipe
0.3ml of rosewood essential oil (Aniba rosacea)
0.5 ml d’HE de géranium (Pelargonium)
0.5 ml EO of lemon eucalyptus (Eucalyptus citriodora)
0.2 ml d’HE de giroflier (Eugenia caryophyllus)
0,5 ml d’HE de romarin (Rosmarinus)
5 ml of hazelnut vegetable oil
Depending on the essential oil or the synergy you use against mosquitoes, be sure to remember its duration of effectiveness: some will no longer take effect after 30 minutes.
In terms of application, know that certain places, where the blood capillaries are close to the skin in particular, such as the wrists or the back of the ears, should be protected as a priority.
WarningLemon eucalyptus essential oil is not recommended for pregnant women under 3 months2. Check with your naturopath or pharmacist before any application or use of essential oil. |
Ceylon cinnamon essence (Cinnamomum zeylanicum) is to be used as an adjunct to wasp stings and snakebites.
