Escholzia (flowers): planting and care
Eschsholzia, or, as it is also commonly called among gardeners, the Californian poppy, is very undemanding to care for. Delicate and very abundant flowering begins in the fall and continues until the first frost. You can meet the plant not only in summer cottages and flower beds, but also in parks and squares.

Eschsholzia is not demanding in maintenance, it is very attractive in appearance, thanks to which every year it increasingly wins the love of land owners.
Beautiful and very unusual flowers prefer sandy well-drained soil for growing. The acidity should be weak or neutral. If it is not possible to determine this indicator, then when digging the soil, it is necessary to add a little dolomite flour to it.
The flower prefers a sunny place located on a hill. In no case should water stagnation be allowed. If it is damp and there is not enough sunlight, then the plant will simply die.
This plant is grown mainly from seeds. In this case, not only spring sowing is suitable, but also autumn sowing. The latter can provide abundant flowering as early as early May. There is another significant advantage of pre-winter planting: the seeds are naturally selected, and the result is very strong and viable plants.

Due to the fact that the seeds of the plant are small, after sowing they must be slightly pressed into the soil, compacting the latter in the immediate vicinity of the grain. After that, the soil must be mulched. This is especially true for spring sowing. When receiving dense seedlings, they must be thinned a little.
Before planting plants in a supposed permanent place of growth, you need to evaluate all the advantages and disadvantages of the selected site. It must be sunny, well-ventilated, with sandy soil. It is recommended to mix the seeds with sand before planting.
Flowers have a tap root system. Because of this, it is very easy to damage the root system when transplanting to a permanent place. To prevent this from happening, it is better to use peat tablets for sowing seeds. Do not try to water the escholzia often, because she loves dry soil. You also do not need to apply organic fertilizers. Mineral can be applied just before flowering.
Despite the fact that the flower is very resistant to pests and diseases, it needs some attention and protection. If signs of a fungus disease are detected, preventive treatment should be carried out immediately. The same applies to other diseases. Only in this case your pet will be able to please with long and abundant flowering.
