The Bosch washing machine, like all modern washing machines, is equipped with a self-diagnosis system. Thanks to her, the washing machine itself detects breakdowns at their earliest stage.
The user learns about the results of the self-diagnosis system thanks to the electronic display. But what error F61 means, and what to do when it appears, is not written on the screen.
Read this article to the end and find out everything: why it gives an error, how to reset errors and how to fix the problem that caused the error.
Deciphering the meaning of the code
If the Bosch washing machine shows error F 61, the corresponding code is displayed on the display. This simple combination means that an incorrect door (hatch) code has occurred.
This is expressed in the fact that the SM does not start washing and cannot block the hatch.
Self check
To confirm the malfunction (maybe it’s just a software failure, not a breakdown), you need to proceed according to the following scheme:
- Disconnect the SMA from the mains.
- Wait 15-20 minutes for the control unit to reboot.
- Reset the error by pressing the START button (On/Off).
- Check sunroof lock.
The fault has been confirmed, you start the wash, but the machine does not want to wash and block the hatch, it still shows an error on the display. It will take a partial disassembly of the washer for its independent repair, and maybe a call to the master.
Usually, if F 61 is on, the following repairs are needed:
- Replacement of UBL (hatch blocking device).
- Repair or replacement of the control board.
- Checking and possible replacement of the wiring going to the UBL.
Next, we will understand everything in order and find the best solution to the problem for your Bosch SM.
How to fix the error and close the washing machine
In order to close the hatch of the Bosch washing machine, and thereby remove the annoying error, you need to figure out what provoked this failure.
Sunroof cannot be locked in closed position
This breakdown is usually not characteristic of the Bosch brand, but everything happens for the first time.
The malfunction is caused by a broken guide. If this element is plastic, then it is at risk and can break at any time. This part can be found under the locking tab and checked.
Breakage of the guide may be accompanied by a slight curvature of the hatch. Solving the problem is simple – you need to replace the part, and in the future, using the machine, carefully close the hatch door.
In some Bosch models, this problem can be caused by a lopsided locking tab. When it bends, it cannot get into the blocking slot, so the hatch does not close. The provocateur of a breakdown is a fallen stem, on which the tongue rests. To return it to its place, you need to disassemble the hatch, we will describe it below, and show how to change the stem (rod).
Sunroof closed but not blocked
In this case, error F 16 is accompanied by the fact that washing does not start, although nothing interferes with it. In fact, if the hatch is not blocked, the smart washing machine will never start washing.
Replacing the lock (UBL) is easy, just watch the video:
Hatch handle broken
The handle is an important mechanism involved in both opening and closing the SM door. Of course, over time it can fail. Sometimes the manufacturers of Bosch machines are not at all to blame for this problem – the handle may have worn out due to careless use.
The handle is worth changing – no need to try to glue it or rewind it with electrical tape.
To replace the handle without the help of a master, you need to remove the door and disassemble it. Above we have added a video showing how properly disassemble the sunroof.
How to replace a handle:
- Remove the sunroof.
- Lay it on the floor and unscrew the fasteners.
- Use a flat screwdriver to pry up the edges of the hatch around the entire perimeter.
- You will see the following:
- Remove the glass, remembering its location. Turn the hatch over and, armed with a thin screwdriver, push through the metal rod.
- Turn the hatch over and pull the rod out with pliers.
- Take a new part, install it.
If everything was done correctly and you no longer see the F61 fault code on the scoreboard, then the repair is successful. Use the sunroof carefully so that this error does not appear again.
