Atlant washing machines have a self-diagnosis system: having detected a malfunction in the nodes and parts, it shows a certain error code on the display. If the F4 error is on the SM Atlant display, it means that there are problems with draining the water.
On models of washers without a screen, the second indicator will light up. At the same time, the machine does not drain the water when necessary. What to do in this case?
What does error F4 mean: causes and diagnosis of failure
With an F4 error in the Atlant washing machine, in most cases there are problems with the pump (drain pump). However, before disassembling the washer in search of a problem, rule out a system failure.
To reset the F4 error, disconnect SMA Atlant from the network for 20 minutes, then turn it on again. Look at the display – is the error gone? Then the cause of the problem is eliminated.

Possible problems and their elimination
Start checking items:
- Drain hose. The washer cannot drain the water if the hose is kinked or clogged. Disconnect it from the system, wash under the tap.
- Drain filter. Following the hose, the pump filter is checked. Usually it is located on the front panel, behind the hatch. Take out the filter and clean it of debris.
- Impeller. While the filter is not in place, check the pump impeller. To do this, shine a light into the hole where the filter is installed and see if the impeller is spinning. If it stands still, then some object interferes with rotation. The interference must be eliminated by removing the pump and disassembling it.
- Water pump. The pump should be inspected for damage or blockage. Check winding integrity.
- Control block. Be sure to check the wiring harness that leads from the pump to the board. Broken wires must either be insulated or replaced. Lastly, the control board is inspected at the time of the breakdown.
Checking and replacing the pump
How to troubleshoot if the Atlant washing machine gives an F4 error? The drain pump needs to be checked. What this means, we will consider below.
- Disconnect the washer from the network and communications.
- Lay SM Atlant on its side.
- The drain pump is located below.
- Loosen the two fixing screws.
- Remove the pump.
After removal, inspect the impeller. Perhaps a thread is wrapped around it, which prevents it from rotating normally. Remove foreign element.
How to check the pump with a multimeter:
- Remove the screws holding the pump to the snail.
- Measure winding resistances.
- Attach the tester probes to the pump terminals.

Other malfunctions
The cause of problems with draining and the F4 error on the Atlant washing machine may be the control board. If moisture gets in or a short circuit fails, the elements of the module. Each element is responsible for the operation of some part.
Having taken the module out of SM Atlant, visually inspect it. Burnt tracks, broken contacts can be found on the board itself. If, after inspection, no problems are found, ring each element of the board with a multimeter.
