Atlant electronic models show the F2 error on the display. Electromechanical washers without a display give an error code like this: the third indicator is lit on the control panel.
What does error F2 mean in the Atlant washing machine
For the Atlant washing machine, fault code F2 means a temperature sensor malfunction.
He is responsible for measuring the temperature of the water, the principle of operation of the sensor may vary depending on the type of device. But the essence is the same: when the selected washing temperature is reached, the thermostat sends a signal to the control board. The latter gives a command to turn off the heating element.
Breakage of the temperature sensor with an F2 error can be critical. Unregulated heating leads to boiling of water and combustion of the heating element.
Types of thermal relays, checking them at home

Bimetal type
Represents two bimetallic plates in the form of a tablet. When voltage is applied, the plates expand, closing the contact, which is read by the control board as a signal.
Due to wear, the bimetal type sensor fails.
How to fix the situation and install a new thermistor on SM Atlant:
- Get to the washer tank and disconnect the sensor wires.
- Attach the probes of the multimeter to the contacts and measure the resistance.
- Now immerse the thermostat in hot water, look at the readings.
- If the readings fall, the device is working. No, it needs a replacement.
After installing a new element, check the machine. See if the F2 error is gone from the display. If the thermostat is OK, continue testing.
gas filled type
This sensor consists of two parts. One of them, in the form of a tablet, is in the water, where it measures the temperature. The second in the form of a tube filled with freon is connected to the control module.
When heated, the gas expands, the contacts close. Damage to the tube and the release of gas cause a malfunction.
What to do to replace and fix the error:
- Remove the back and front panel of the SMA Atlant.
- Remove the thermostat clamp from the back and push it into the tank.
- Remove the device from the tank by disconnecting the wires.
- With a tester, check the resistance as in the previous case.
Electronic type
An electronic sensor (thermistor) is located at the base of the heating element. Its method of operation is to measure the resistance that is formed when water is heated.
What does replacing thermistor mean:
- Remove the back panel of the Atlant washing machine.
- Below, where the heating element is located, you will see the thermistor.
- Loosen the central nut of the heating element, remove the thermistor.
- Resistance is measured in the same way.
Installing a new thermostat is done in reverse order. Thus, you can independently carry out repairs and remove the F2 error that is on the scoreboard.
Control module
