What to do if the Bosch washing machine gives an F19 error? This means that there is a problem with the water heating.
Modern automatic washing machines are equipped with an excellent self-diagnosis system that instantly detects a failure when it occurs. She informs the user about the breakdown by displaying fault codes on the scoreboard.
We will take a closer look at what code F 19 means and how to fix the breakdown that caused it.
Decoding and symptoms of error F19
The Bosch electronic washing machine shows an error on the display by displaying the alphanumeric code F19.
The Bosch electromechanical washing machine reacts to a failure more simply: three lights are on at the same time. 2 combinations are possible:
- RPM indicators 1000 and 600 + “Rinse”.
- RPM indicators 800 and 400 + “Rinse”.
Code 19 – water heating error. Perhaps the machine reports a break in the heating system.
Important! This is a critical error. Possible short circuit and ignition of the SMA. Experts do not recommend the operation of the Bosch washing machine if F19 is displayed.
The signs of damage are the same for all models of Bosch machines:
- The sunroof is not blocked.
- Washing does not start.
- The control panel does not respond to button presses and program selections.
Checking machines at F19
With the help of simple steps, you can determine what caused the malfunction of the heating system:
- Low voltage in the mains. This is especially true for houses in private sectors.
- Programmer failure. Reboot the machine by unplugging it and leaving it for 15-20 minutes. If after turning on the error disappeared, it is possible that the control board simply “bugged”.
- Scale on the heater (heater). The scale does not pass the heat generated by the heating element, so it burns out.
Error F19: repair and replacement of parts
Masters in service centers are well aware of what error code F19 means. They willingly share knowledge and practice to tell you how to fix the situation.
In this case, the following repair will help:
- Replacing the heating element.
- Replacing the temperature sensor.
- Control board repair.
For your information! You can try to get rid of scale on the heating element. In rare cases, this helps.
TEN: check and replacement
Unlike other CMA brands, Bosch washers have access to the heater from the front, not the back, so you have to disassemble the washing machine to check and replace the heating element.
Dismantling a washing machine using the example of Bosch Maxx 5:
- Disconnect the SM from the power supply.
- Take a screwdriver and unscrew the 2 fasteners that hold the top cover of the machine. Slide the cover back and remove it.
- Take out the powder compartment. There is a button at the bottom of the cuvette, by pressing which you can easily remove it.
- Having removed the cuvette, you will see holes in which there are fasteners – they need to be unscrewed. You will find another screw on the right side of the machine, on the side.
- Remove the panel by carefully pulling it towards you.
- Open the technical hatch at the bottom of the machine, remove the filter, drain the waste water (clean the filter at the same time – it will never be superfluous).
- In the hatch you will find other fasteners that need to be unscrewed.
- Next, remove the front panel. So that the cuff of the hatch does not interfere with you, remove the clamp holding it with a screwdriver and push the cuff inside the drum.
- Having removed everything that bothered you, you will see a heating element – it is located directly under the drum.
Check the heater
Prepare the heating element – remove all wires from it and release the terminals. You can check it directly in the machine or get it by unscrewing the central nut.
- Take a tester (multimeter) and put it into 200 ohm resistance measurement mode.
- Attach the probes to the terminals.
- A serviceable heater will show resistance in the region of 24 ohms.
- If the display of the tester shows 0, then the heating element is closed.
- A value of 1 or ∞ is an open inside the heating element.
It does not hurt to also check the breakdown of the heating element on the body (if the first check showed that the heating element is working):
- Set the selector ring on the tester to the buzzer mode.
- Lean one probe against the heater outlet, short the other one on the case.
- If the buzzer does not beep, then the heating element does not penetrate the body.
- If the tester beeps, then the heating element breaks through the body, and it needs to be changed.
Replacing the heater
The most important thing you need to replace the heating element is a new original part that fits your Bosch CM model. The solution to the problem, given the trends of the modern market, is simple – buy such a heating element in a store or order it on the Internet. The main thing is that the heating element is certified, and not made in China.
Important! Buy a new heating element along with a rubber seal that holds the heater in the groove.
Before replacing the heating element, clean the place where it was installed: most likely, scale has accumulated there.
Install the element, connect the temperature sensor, wire and assemble the Bosch machine in reverse order.
Checking and replacing the temperature sensor
If everything is OK with the heater, check and replace the temperature sensor. We wrote in detail about checking and replacing the thermistor in the article about error F38.

Repair of the control board
Sometimes, in order to remove the error, you need to check the control module – it may have oxidized contacts and burnt out elements.
If F19 is on, it is worth checking the board and, if necessary, reprogramming it or even replacing it.
Masters, not for selfish purposes, do not recommend repairing electronics on their own. Often, ordinary users only worsen the condition of the SMA by self-intervention, because the firmware and replacement of the controller requires the appropriate tool, knowledge and experience.
Now you know how to correct the situation and reset errors if there is a break in the heating system of the Bosch washer.
