Error F12 in Atlant washing machines – how to fix

If you have an Atlant washing machine without a display, the first and second indicators are lit on the panel, which means that the washer is reporting error code F12.

Electronic CM models show error F12 on the display. How to fix the fault code? We will understand the reasons for its appearance and perform diagnostics of the details.

Error value

When the F12 error is displayed on the Atlant washing machine, it is important to understand that it means a problem with the engine or its breakdown. Therefore, if the Atlant washing machine does not start washing and gives an F12 error, the cause must be sought in the details of the engine (motor).

Engine types. Principle of operation

Without understanding the device and the principle of operation of the motor, you will not understand how to fix the breakdown.

There are three types of engine. Some of them are used on modern SMA Atlant models, others are located in earlier versions.

  1. Asynchronous. Durable and reliable motor. It features a simple design, which is based on a rotor and a stator.
  2. Collector. Small motor with high speed. The main constituent elements: rotor, stator, electric brushes and tachogenerator.
  3. Direct drive (brushless). It has high efficiency and simple design. It is distinguished by the absence of unnecessary parts, the design is based on the stator and rotor.

We must say right away that only the collector type is subject to self-repair. Therefore, we will talk about checking it and replacing the constituent elements on the Atlant washing machine.

How to remove the motor from the washing machine Atlant

To remove the F12 error from the SM Atlant screen, you need to understand how to eliminate the cause of its occurrence. To do this, you need to remove the engine from the car and perform its diagnostics. What does it mean:

  • Pull the CMA plug out of the socket.
  • Unscrew the screws that secure the back panel of the Atlant washer.
  • The engine is located below. Remove the drive belt from it.
  • Unclip the harnesses and pull them out of the connectors.
  • Unscrew the fixing screws as shown in the photo.
  • Remove the Atlant washing machine motor.

Frequent breakdowns and how to fix them

To reset the F12 error and solve the problem, we will test the main parts of the engine.

What to do to identify the causes of the malfunction:

  1. Connect the stator and rotor windings. Connect a device with a voltage of 220 volts to their connectors. The motor must spin. If the brushes fail, you will notice how they sparkle.
  2. When starting, you can hear how the engine makes a lot of noise, heats up, does not work at full power. Probably, there was a break in the stator and rotor windings. The multimeter is connected to the winding lamellas, as shown in the photo.
  3. The resistance can change by no more than 0,5 ohms. In another case, a short circuit could occur – a visual inspection will help determine it. You will see burnt areas and feel an unpleasant odor.
  4. Measure the resistance of the stator winding by applying the probes one by one to the case and the terminals, as in the photo.
  5. Normal resistance will be very high.

In case of a malfunction, the motor will have to be completely replaced. After installing a new element, the error code F12 should no longer be on the Atlant washer display.

Wear of brushes

The brushes are located on both sides of the engine, with prolonged use they are erased and worn out. How to solve a problem:

  • Disconnect wires from brushes.
  • Loosen the fixing screws.
  • Remove the brushes, inspect them for wear.

If you need to replace the brushes for the Atlant washing machine, be sure to select them according to the type of motor.

Install in reverse order.

Lamella problems

Remove the rotor and inspect the manifold. Due to the high voltage, the lamella can peel off, due to which it loses contact with the rotor winding. There is a possibility of a break or damage to the wire that connects the lamella to the rotor.

In order to machine the lamella connectors and eliminate the F12 error, use a lathe. There should be no burrs on the surface, and the connectors should be well cleaned.

How thoroughly should gaps be cleaned? Attach ohmmeter probes to the lamellas: if a short circuit is displayed, then you still need to work out the area.
