Error E09 appeared in the Bosch dishwasher? We will help you deal with the problem. First of all, you need to understand that the code indicates a malfunction of the heating element. How to fix it, read this article.
Error Code Meaning
The E 09 icon indicates problems with the heater (heater). Most likely, the part burned out and needs to be replaced, but everything is not so simple here. The flow heater in the dishwasher is different from the heating element in the washing machine. It is attached to the recirculation pump for efficient water heating.
How it works? The pump pumps water and then passes it through the heater. The pressure of hot water facilitates washing dishes.
Since the heating element is part of the circulation pump (or engine), you cannot buy it separately for replacement. It is important to consider the Bosch PMM model when purchasing parts, since error E09 is typical for third-generation equipment.
The failure of the heating element occurs in 90% of cases if the machine gives an E9 error. But the remaining 10% are:
- electrical wiring problem
- breakdown of the temperature sensor;
- incorrect operation of the main module.
For what reasons does the heating element break?
If in the future you do not want to face a similar problem, remember the main reasons for its occurrence:
- Water leak. Over time, gaskets and seals wear out in technology, so a leak may occur. As a result, water enters the sump where the heater and motor are located. Often the glass loses its tightness at the junction with the body. However, it is worth checking not only this one, but also all other elements: pipes, hoses.
- Clogged filter. The drain filter needs to be cleaned periodically. This is the prevention of many problems and the warning of other error codes. Due to blockage, water circulates slowly, which leads to overheating of the heating element. Therefore, the system may show the code E09. How to fix the situation? Open the hopper door and find the mesh filter below, remove it and rinse it under water pressure. No matter how hard you try to clean the dishes from food, small pieces still get into the Bosch dishwasher, leading to blockages.
- Scale. Poor-quality hard water affects the operation of the PMM. Limescale deposits on the heater, forming a thick layer. The heater takes longer to heat the water, after which it overheats and burns out. Use salt to soften the water and prevent scale build-up.
Problems with the wiring or the temperature sensor happen due to instability in the network. If you haven’t installed yet Voltage regulator when connecting a dishwasher, we recommend doing this. Otherwise, the control module may burn out.
A short circuit also occurs when water enters the contacts.

How to troubleshoot
First you need to eliminate the failure in the system. If the fault code is displayed for the first time, you must know how to reset the program:
- pull the plug out of the socket;
- wait 10-15 minutes;
- connect the machine to the network.
The error is no longer displayed on the screen? Then the problem is solved. If it lights up again, then you will have to change the heater – for this you need to disassemble the PMM. Ready for a do-it-yourself repair? Then here is the workflow:
- Disconnect the dishwasher from the mains, water, sewerage.
- Remove the plastic clips that are located along the edges of the PMM body.
- Unscrew and remove the front part of the equipment.
- Under the door is a metal bar. Unscrew it.
- Remove thermal insulation.
- Unscrew the screws around the perimeter of the pallet.
- Open the bunker door, free it from the baskets.
- Remove the rocker from the seat.
- Remove the filter and mesh from below.
- Unscrew the four screws that hold the circulation pump.
- Now put a rag and turn the car over on the back wall.
- Unscrew the screws around the perimeter and remove the pallet.
- Disconnect the wires from the drain pump, unscrew the screws.
- Turn the pump clockwise and remove from place.
- Remove everything that holds the circulation unit in place: wires, hoses, pipes.
- Remove the clamp holding the heater on the pump. Remove the heater.
- Install the new part in reverse order.
If you are not sure if the heating element is defective, measure the resistance of its contacts with a multimeter.
Now you know what error code E09 means. We described what parts to check and how to properly fix the breakdown. Be consistent and remember to follow the safety rules. Do home renovations seem too complicated? Then call the experts for help.
