Enterol is used as a preventive measure for antibiotic-associated diarrhea and travelers’ diarrhea, and as a remedy for bacterial and viral diarrhea. The drug restores normal microbiota and inhibits diarrhea. The preparation is in the form of capsules or a powder for oral suspension. Enterol is available over the counter in pharmacies.

Enterol probiotic drug is a preparation that restores normal intestinal microbiota. The active substance of the drug is freeze-dried yeast Saccharomyces boulardii CNCM I-745. The main purpose of taking Enterol is the treatment (shortening the duration, alleviating symptoms) of infectious diarrhea caused, among others, by bacteria or viruses.

Enterol – indications

Enterol is a drug recommended:

  1. in the treatment of infectious diarrhea (bacterial, viral)
  2. in the prevention of diarrhea during antibiotic therapy as a probiotic to an antibiotic;
  3. in the prophylaxis of travelers’ diarrhea;
  4. in the prevention of diarrhea associated with enteral nutrition;
  5. with recurrent diarrhea caused by bacterial infection Clostridium difficileas an adjunct to vancomycin or metronidazole treatments.

Enterol – composition

The active substance in all forms of Enterol are freeze-dried yeast Saccharomyces boulardii CNCM I-745. The composition also includes auxiliary substances. The full composition can be found in the product leaflet.

Enterol – dosage

Enterol is in the form of capsules or sachets containing powder for oral suspension. The capsules can be swallowed whole and the sachets should be opened and the powder in them mixed with any amount of lukewarm liquid and drunk.

Enterol in sachets is recommended for children and people fed enterally.

The dosage of Enterol 250 depends on the disease:

  1. acute infectious diarrhea: 1 to 2 caps./sasz. daily for up to 1 week
  2. post-antibiotic diarrhea: 1 to 2 caps./sasz. daily, during and after antibiotic therapy
  3. diarrhea caused by infection C. difficile: 4 caps / sasz. daily for up to 4 weeks
  4. diarrhea associated with enteral nutrition: 1 to 2 capsules / sasz. per day;
  5. travelers’ diarrhea: 1 to 4 caps. / sasz. daily for up to 1 week.
Attention

Enterol capsules can be opened and the contents poured into food or milk for a child so that they do not choke.

Enterol should not be mixed with liquids or foods that are too hot (temperature above 50 ° C), frozen or contain alcohol, as this may destroy the yeast cells.

Enterol – contraindications

Contraindications to taking Enterol are:

  1. hypersensitivity to the active substance or any of the excipients of the drug;
  2. placing a central venous catheter in the patient;
  3. the risk of fungemia among critically ill patients as well as those who have severely lowered immunity.

Enterol with other drugs

Please tell your doctor about all your medications when you see your doctor. The preparation should not be combined with drugs taken orally or intravenously with antifungal properties, because they counteract its beneficial properties.

Flatulence may rarely occur during the use of Enterol.

Very rarely, the following may appear:

  1. local rash
  2. allergic reactions
  3. hives
  4. itching
  5. anaphylactic reactions
  6. swelling of the face
  7. angioedema
  8. rash all over the body (rash).

Enterol – availability and price

Enterol probiotic is widely available in pharmacies all over Poland. It can be purchased not only stationary, but also in pharmacies selling by mail order. The price of a larger package of Enterol in capsules (20 pieces of 250 mg in blisters) is about PLN 22, the price of a smaller package in capsules (10 capsules of 250 mg in a bottle) is about PLN 14, and the price of Enterol in sachets with flavored powder fruit (10 sachets of 250 mg) is about PLN 16,

Enterol – substitutes

Enterol is a drug that contains a unique yeast strain Saccharomyces boulardii CNCM I-745, which is largely researched.

However, preparations containing other strains belonging to the species are available on the market Saccharomyces boulardii. These products include:

  1. Dierol;
  2. Flora Pro Balance Whole;
  3. Enteric floractin;
  4. Enter

However, it should be remembered that individual strains differ in properties, therefore, the use of these products may not produce the same effects as the use of Enterol.
