Enema bulb: how does it work, why use it?

The main use of an enema bulb is the cleansing of substances and foreign bodies present in the orifices of the human body. Ear wax from the ear to intimate substances secreted inside the human body through all the motley waste, the pear will purge the orifices of all these foreign matter. It can use air or cleaning fluid. The liquid fluid is introduced into the bulb then propelled inside the orifice by the nozzle located in the extension of the bulb. The simplest model of the enema bulb consists of an assembly formed by a small rubber bulb connected to a tip provided with a series of rubber or hard plastic holes with a diameter of about 1 centimeter.

What is an enema bulb?

The enema bulb is an accessory allowing the injection of a liquid or air into an orifice of the human body.

There are several types of pears allowing specific treatments in the ENT sphere as well as cleaning the vaginal or rectal opening. The simplest model of the enema bulb consists of an assembly formed by a small rubber bulb connected to a tip provided with a series of rubber or hard plastic holes with a diameter of about 1 centimeter.

What is an enema bulb used for?

The main use of an enema bulb is to cleanse substances and foreign bodies from the orifices of the human body. Ear wax from the ear to intimate substances secreted inside the human body through all the motley waste, the pear will purge the orifices of all these foreign matter.

The enema pear is particularly indicated for:

  • ear cleaning;
  • the intimate toilet of the vagina;
  • bowel washing, also called bowel irrigation, colon irrigation or colon hydrotherapy.

It should be noted, however, that some professionals warn against the misuse of these enema systems which can disrupt the bacterial environment naturally present in the intestine or in the vagina.

How is an enema bulb used?

Easy to use, the enema bulb can use air or cleaning liquid. The liquid fluid is introduced into the bulb then propelled inside the orifice by the nozzle located in the extension of the bulb.

Precautions for use

In the case bowel washing, pTo use the enema bulb properly, it is recommended to follow the following steps:

  • fill the pear with lukewarm water;
  • introduce the cannula into the anus;
  • exert pressure to inject the liquid into the rectum while the person is lying down;
  • lukewarm water dissolves stools stuck against the intestinal walls to initiate their detachment and then their evacuation.

It should be noted that this enema technique is not recommended in case of hemorrhoids.

In the case of cleaning the ear, it is recommended to use a Politzer pear. Used in particular in the event of earwax plugs, this makes it possible to soften the latter and to clean the duct more easily. Easy to use, all you need to do is:

  • put an aqueous cleaning solution in the pear;
  • insert it into the ear using the cannula at the end of the tube.

Enema pears can be stored in a dry place. It is important to be sure to clean and rinse them after each use with soapy water.

How to choose an enema bulb?

The volumes of the enema pears can vary from less than a hundred milliliters to several hundred milliliters, thus defining the greater or lesser size of the medical device. The end pieces can also be shorter or longer depending on the model.

The different models of enema pears include:

  • Politzer’s pear, used for washing the ear. This consists of a flexible rubber bulb of 200 milliliters which allows pumping and a perforated olive nozzle allowing air or a substance to be blown;
  • the ENEMA ORL suction bulb, also used for washing the ear. This consists of a bulb and two cannulas through which it is possible to aspirate a liquid which is then pumped into the ear opening. The two cannulas are different sizes, one large and one small;
  • the tapered medical pear, used in pathologies of the ENT sphere, allows aspiration and ENT washing;
  • the pear for vaginal and intestinal injection, which can be used both for cleaning the rectum and for cleaning the vagina. It consists of a plastic bulb on which is mounted a replaceable tip which is introduced rectally or vaginally.
