Emotions are means of influence, and they can be used in very different ways. Emotions can be loaded, emotions can be protected.

Maxim broke the toys and ran to his mother to say «Mom, I love you.» He spoke actively and persistently, after the question of a slightly surprised mother: “what happened?”, He calmly explained that “he broke toys, but you will swear.” When it comes to protecting their butt, children very quickly grasp what behavior to show, what emotion to portray, act out, or experience.

For kids, it’s pretty much the same.

Many people are talented in using the communicative function of emotions to defend themselves against pressure, demands, and accusations from loved ones.

I was upset, I was already feeling bad — which means that I can no longer be blamed. I’m tired — so don’t burden me anymore. I got angry — it means that a lot is already forgiven me. I’m afraid — so I can no longer do what I need to do. I’m already upset, and you’re still climbing with comments!

This makes many seemingly strange and maladaptive emotions intrinsically beneficial. If you are worried — most likely, you need it for some reason.
