Elmetacin – composition of the preparation, action, indications and contraindications to use

Elmetacin is a drug in the form of an aerosol intended for symptomatic, topical use in the case of pain caused by contusions, injuries, inflammation of soft tissues and osteoarthritis.

Elmetacin contains the active substance indomethacin. Apart from that, Elmetacin contains isopropyl alcohol and isopropyl myristate.

Action of Elmetacin

Elmetacin has an analgesic, anti-inflammatory and anti-swelling effect. It soothes pain and swelling in the case of contusions and injuries.

Indications for the use of Elmetacin

Elmetacin is used in the case of pain caused by injuries and inflammation of the soft tissue. Elmetacin is also indicated in the exacerbation of osteoarthritis symptoms. The drug reduces swelling and has an anti-inflammatory effect.

Elmetacin is also used in tendinitis, tenosynovitis, joint stiffness, inflammation of muscles and joint capsules. It is useful in relieving pain in the case of dislocations, sprains and bruises.

Elmetacin is also used topically in the auxiliary treatment of rheumatic pains.

Contraindications to the use of Elmetacin

Contraindication to the use of Elmetacin is allergy to any component of the drug, as well as asthma and peptic ulcer disease of the stomach or intestines. Elmetacin may worsen the symptoms of your ulcer or may cause it to come back.

The preparation should not be used on open wounds and irritated skin.

Elmetacin should not be used in the third trimester of pregnancy and during breastfeeding, as the drug may pass into breast milk. Elmetacin should also not be used in children and adolescents.

How to use Elmetacin?

Elmetacin is applied to a diseased or painful place. The skin should be sprayed with the preparation from a distance of about 15 cm. Elmetacin must not be applied to the mucous membranes and eyes. When spraying the skin with Elmetacin, the conjunctiva should be protected.

The dosage of Elmetacin and the duration of treatment with this preparation is determined by the doctor.

Side effects of Elmetacin

Elmetacin can cause skin irritation and allergic reactions such as itching, rash and drug acne. In the case of long-term treatment or use of high doses of Elmetacin, gastrointestinal disorders such as nausea, vomiting, constipation or diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, gastrointestinal ulcer and bleeding, and lack of appetite may occur.

Precautions when using Elmetacin

Elmetacin must not be used on open wounds.

Elmetacin should not be used after the expiry date stated on the package. The preparation should be stored at room temperature, out of the reach of children.
