Electronic Cigarettes, allowed in hospitality

On February 19, the Health and Social Services Commission of the Congress of Deputies approved the General Law for the Defense of Consumers and Users, which, among other matters, regulates the use and advertising of electronic cigarettes.

The standard responds to the agreement adopted between the Ministry of Health and the Autonomous Communities last December, according to this regulation the use of these electronic cigarettes will be allowed inside hospitality establishments, while the prohibition is limited to centers. of the public administrations and health establishments, either in the open or covered spaces included in their enclosures. Likewise, the use of these cigarettes will be prohibited in educational or training centers, including outdoor spaces, which are excluded in the case of centers dedicated exclusively to adult training.

As is the case with tobacco, the use of electronic cigarettes will also be prohibited in playgrounds or playgrounds for children, even if they are outdoors. Regarding transport, its use in public transport, as well as in maritime, rail or air transport, will be prohibited.

The standard also regulates advertising, which is limited to the same regulations established by the Anti-Smoking Law in terms of media and dissemination.

But this regulation will not leave public opinion indifferent, nor the World Health Organization, nor accredited medical institutions have reached reliable conclusions about the effects of steam on the body …

Now several questions arise about the effect of these cigarettes, as explained in the zoomnews article on the matter:

  • Steam is more acceptable than smoke, but do you know if it hurts …?
  • The dilemma of the European directive: should the electronic cigarette be sold as medicine or as tobacco?
