“Elder” is a brand of cognac produced by the Stavropol Wine and Brandy Factory. According to the AC Nielsen retail audit, since 2011, the brand has consistently been among the top five leaders in the Russian market. In 2016, the plant ranked fourth in terms of production (593 thousand dal) and fifth in terms of sales with a market share of 3,4%.
The history of the Stavropol wine and cognac factory dates back to 1947: it was then that the company was founded in one of the best viticulture and winemaking regions in Russia.
Since 1999, SVKZ has come under the control of the international group of companies ALVISA, which has invested heavily in expanding production capacities. In the period from 2004 to 2006, a complete reconstruction was carried out.
Thanks to the equipment of German and Swiss bottling lines, the most modern warehouse equipment, the plant creates a high-quality product that can compete with world famous brands. Since 2007, the production has been certified according to the international system of standards ISO 9001.
The Elderishina brand was introduced to the market in 2004. For the production of cognac, Spanish distillates are used, supplied by the world-famous company Alcoholes Y Vinos SA. Alvisa Group also owns the Bodegas Altizia viticulture and winery, which is a full-cycle enterprise. These assets allow for strict quality control of drinks “from the vine to the store shelf”.

How to distinguish a fake
Due to the popularity of the brand among Russian consumers, there are cases of falsification of Elderishina cognacs on the market. You can avoid buying a fake product if you carefully examine the packaging. Genuine SVKZ products are distinguished by the following features:
- a bottle of original shape with a characteristic thick bottom;
- text applied with gold paint directly on the glass;
- natural cork;
- gold stamping on shrink cap.
Interesting Facts
In the summer of 2016, the export of Elderishina cognacs to one of the most capacious and promising markets, China, began. The decision was preceded by lengthy tastings and negotiations with many Russian producers, after which the Chinese suppliers preferred this particular cognac brand.
At the beginning of 2017, the management of the Alvisa holding thought about selling part of its assets, including the Elder brand. Negotiations were held with a number of potential buyers from among the largest participants in the alcohol market. Among the possible reasons for the willingness to part with a part of a successful business is the high credit burden of the company.
