The drink Egg legs (egg – egg, nog is short for noggin – a small mug of ale) has a long history and it originated in Scotland back in the XNUMXth century. The locals were very fond of preparing this hot drink for Christmas, and it contained only four ingredients: eggs, dark ale, honey and spices.

History of the Egg Leg Cocktail

Egg Nog reached its peak of popularity in America when, in the XNUMXth century, bartender Jerry Thomas published a couple of recipes for this cocktail in his famous book, where ale was replaced with rum and milk. And in Jerry’s interpretation, this cocktail was prepared without heating, and he repeatedly focused on the fact that in Scotland they invented the hot drink Egg legs, and the Egg legs cocktail is the merit of the Americans.

But even in this variation, the Christmas cocktail in 2012 was excluded from the International Register of the Bartending Association. Nobody knows the exact reason, perhaps this was due to numerous variations of the recipe that claim to be original and today there are about 50 options.

Strong alcohol (rum, brandy, whiskey) began to be added to the New Year’s Egg Nog drink in America. The Italians like to add cherry syrup, and the Germans prefer to add egg liqueur instead of eggs.

And each of you can create your own recipe, substituting one type of alcohol for another, such as rum for vodka, or adding some kind of fruit or nut syrup. Here is only your flight of fancy and already this winter you can please your loved ones with your masterpiece.

And we will tell you how to cook Egg legs in more well-known variations.
