Effective bathroom cleaners: how to clean your bathroom yourself
For each type of bath, you need to select a special product. Various brands offer their products to hostesses, advertisements are thrown with bright slogans, but it’s worth figuring out how to choose the right bath cleaner. At first glance, this is an insignificant issue. However, cleanliness in the bathroom is very important, because mold and mildew in a humid environment actively multiply if the choice of cleaning agents is not properly approached.
Bath detergents: what kind of baths are there?
There are several types of bathtubs according to the material of their manufacture:
- cast iron;
- steel;
- acrylic.
When choosing a bath cleaner, you need to look at their composition. It will depend on it whether it is suitable for a particular metal or surface.
Although cast iron bathtubs have centuries of durability, they are vulnerable to rust and quickly tarnish, losing their beautiful appearance.
- To avoid this, it is worth choosing products without chlorine and various acids.
- As a means for a cast iron bath, you can use liquid or laundry soap.
- Components in cleaning agents for this type of bath should include surfactants and germicidal additives.
- The most delicate care will be provided by creams and gels, while cleaning powders are more aggressive.
Cast iron bath detergents can be found in your kitchen, as well as prepared by yourself. For example, baking soda can be used for cleaning; it must be used to treat a dry surface. Sodium bicarbonate will gently remove dirt.
Rust stains can be removed with a mixture of ammonia and hydrogen peroxide (100 g / 50 g). The solution is applied with a sponge, after a quarter of an hour it is washed off with water.
Wine vinegar also helps with rust. 100 grams of wine vinegar should be mixed with two tablespoons of salt and heated in the microwave to 65 degrees. It is necessary to wipe the bath with this cocktail with rubber gloves. After application, you need to leave it for 20 minutes, then you can rinse it off.
In the care of steel baths, as in the case of cast iron, abrasives and acids are inapplicable. Rough brushes can damage the surface, so it is best to replace them with sponges or rags.
You can get rid of stubborn dirt with a creamy or pasty product. It is applied in a thin layer, and after a few minutes, the surface is wiped with a soft cloth. The rest should be guided by the selection for cast iron.
To clean an acrylic bathtub, not only special detergents are suitable, but also dishwashing gel or, for example, liquid soap.
- A solution of lemon juice or vinegar will help to cope with limescale, and it is better to rub them with a sponge.
- But it is better to use professional products for acrylic surfaces.
- They are applied to the bath with a special napkin.
After application, you need to leave the product for 5 minutes, then rinse with warm water and wipe the bath dry.
