Three days of conference, over three hundred debates and four thousand guests from Europe, Central Asia and the USA. Karpacz will for the third time become the center of the Economic Forum – an event that has been gathering political, economic and social leaders for thirty years. During the Medonet debate “How the pandemic affected the health of Poles”, we will show areas that require urgent improvement (based on the results of the Polish National Health Test 2022).

The COVID-19 pandemic that has been going on for more than two years, as well as the political and economic turmoil, do not have a positive effect on the health of Poles, and the results of the Polish National Health Test 2022 clearly show this.

Although the average Health Index improved compared to last year and now amounts to 55,1%, the change is slight and amounts to only 4 pp. compared to 2021. There is still a long way to go to match the average Health Index before the pandemic (when it was at 61,9%). In terms of prevention and a healthy lifestyle, we as a society therefore have a lot to do and catch up on if we want to live longer and in better health, and the pandemic was not an ally of improvement in these areas.

Currently, 51 percent. Poles have long-term health problems. In all disease entities considered in the National Health Test of Poles, the percentage of diagnosed from 1 pp. (cancer, COPD) up to 6 pp. (depression) year to year. Almost every third Pole is diagnosed with arterial hypertension, every fifth allergy or asthma, every sixth depression, and every eleventh diabetes. 19% suffer from joint diseases, 12% from heart disease, 12% from neurological diseases, 5% from cancer and 3% from COPD. respondents. The increasing number of patients with chronic diseases every year is a huge challenge for the Polish health system. Therefore, appropriate measures should be taken so that it does not experience a collapse in the next decade.

The state of health of the society depends not only on the level of medical care, its availability and quality, but also – to a large extent – on preventive measures. Building a healthy society requires long-term thinking and appropriate actions aimed both at improving the efficiency of the health care system and the quality of services offered, as well as health education, thanks to which the interest in prevention, especially early and primary prevention, will increase. The conference is organized by the Institute for Eastern Studies Foundation.
