Ebivol – a medicine for the heart

Ebivol Nebivololum is a preparation used as an adjunct to the standard treatment of chronic, mild or moderate heart failure in people over 70 years of age. It is indicated in the case of essential hypertension. It is taken under the supervision of the attending physician. It belongs to the group of beta-blockers (also known as beta-blockers), i.e. drugs that reduce the heart rate and the strength of its contraction, which in turn reduces blood pressure. This is a valuable effect, especially in stressful situations, because nebivolol reduces the sensitivity of tissues to adrenaline and prevents the heartbeat from accelerating in the event of an increased amount of stress. Nebivolol also has little effect on peripheral vasodilation.

Ebivol – composition

The package contains 30 or 60 tablets with a concentration of 5 mg of the active substance (nebivolol). The preparation contains lactose.

Ebivol – price

The drug is available on prescription at a price ranging from PLN 6,60 to PLN 13,93 – depending on the amount due.

Ebivol – dosage

The drug is taken orally. Do not use a different dose than that prescribed by your doctor. You should take the drug at the same time, but it can be independent of meals – the manufacturer did not indicate any restrictions in this matter.

The preparation is used under the condition of prior 2-week treatment without changes in the doses of other drugs. The principle of dosing is always to start with a lower concentration of the active substance and then gradually increase it with due care. The maximum dose allowed is 10 mg daily. Treatment with Ebivol is a long-term process. The noticeable effect of Ebivol occurs after about two weeks of treatment, and its full development is observed after four weeks.

Adults with arterial hypertension usually take one tablet once a day.

For patients with renal impairment, the starting dose is half a tablet every 24 hours. Your doctor may increase the dose to one tablet.

It is worth remembering that patients over 65 years of age start with the base dose of 2,5 mg a day, and people over 75 years of age must exercise extreme caution and be monitored.

Ebivol – contraindications

If you are taking any other medicines, over-the-counter preparations, or are hypersensitive to nebivolol or beta-blockers, please tell your doctor. Caution should be exercised in the case of concurrent diseases of the liver, heart, kidneys and lungs, bronchial asthma, peripheral circulatory disorders, hyperthyroidism or both types of diabetes. The indications for careful observation of the patient’s health are such diseases as atrioventricular block and vasospastic angina, as well as taking antiarrhythmic and hypertensive drugs, and calcium antagonists (verapamil, diltiazem). It is not allowed to take Ebivol during breastfeeding and during pregnancy.

It should not be taken simultaneously with oral antidiabetic drugs, insulin, tricyclic antidepressants, clonidine, barbiturates, cimetidine and phenothiazines. They may interact with nebivolol, so your doctor may advise you to stop taking them for the duration of your treatment. If you take antacids together with Ebivol, you should take Ebivol with a meal and the other medication between meals.

In sick sinus syndrome, bradycardia, and hypotension, Ebivol can significantly worsen symptoms, including life-threatening symptoms.

In the event of an operation or surgery under anesthesia, the doctor may recommend a gradual reduction of the dose until the treatment ceases completely at least one day before the operation. Discontinuation of the drug should not be stopped abruptly, as there is a risk of complications.

Ebivol – side effects

The preparation may increase the sensitivity to allergens or intensify anaphylactic reactions. A specific symptom is also a reduction in the ability to produce tears, which can be a problem for contact lens wearers. Ebivol can make you feel dizzy.

Ebivol – replacements

It should be remembered that other drugs in the same form and international name (nebivolol) do not have to be substitutes, because the content of the active substance (i.e. the dose of the drug) is also important. The decision to change the drug is made by the doctor.
