Paraffin (Petroleum wax, E905c) is a wax — like substance, a mixture of extreme hydrocarbons (alkanes) of a composition from C18H38 to C35H72.
There are 2 types:
- (i) Microcrystalline wax (Microcrystalline wax);
- (ii) Paraffin wax.
It is used for the preparation of paraffin paper, wood impregnation in the match and pencil industries, for the dressing of fabrics, as an insulating material, chemical raw materials, etc. In medicine, it is used for paraffin treatment.
