Potassium chloride (potassium chloride, potassium chloride, potassium salt of hydrochloric acid, E508) is a white, odorless crystalline substance. The chemical formula is KCl.
Potassium chloride is the most common potash fertilizer.
It is used for the production of potassium hydroxide by electrolysis.
Sometimes it is used as an additive to table salt (the so-called “salt with a reduced sodium content”).
It is possible to form holograms on potassium chloride crystals. In a number of US states, it is used as an injection for the death penalty.
