Adipic acid (Adipic acid, hexanedioic acid, E355) is a dibasic ultimate carboxylic acid.
The chemical formula of NOOS(CH2)4COOH. It forms salts (adipates or adipinates), most of which are soluble in water.
Use of adipic acid:
- as a raw material in the production of polyhexamethylenadipinamide (~90% of all produced acid), its esters, polyurethanes;
- in the food industry for giving a sour taste (in particular, in the production of soft drinks);
- the main component of various descaling agents.
The global production of adipic acid is over 1 million tons / year.
