Sodium nitrate (Sodium nitrate, caliche, nitrate of soda, soda nitre, nitratine, chile saltpeter, peru saltpeter, E251) – preservative, white powder or colorless crystals.
The chemical formula is NaNO3.
In large doses, it can cause poisoning.
Symptoms of sodium nitrate poisoning:
- abdominal pain;
- blue lips or nails;
- blueness of the skin;
- convulsions;
- diarrhea;
- vertigo;
- headache;
- shortness of breath.
