Crystalline powder of white or gray color without foreign impurities visible to the naked eye. A greenish tint is allowed. It is well soluble in water, slightly soluble in alcohols, not soluble in esters. It is explosion-proof and non-flammable, but smoking and the use of open flames should be prohibited in places where sodium formate is stored and handled.
According to the degree of exposure to the body, it belongs to substances of hazard class 3. Danger to humans: sodium formate causes irritation of the upper respiratory tract and mucous membranes. Personal protective equipment: when working with sodium formate, personal protective equipment should be used — a robe, a respirator, rubber gloves. In emergency situations, it is necessary to use a gas mask of the A or M brand.
