The powder is yellow to orange in color or dark red, with a melting point of 156 °C. Insoluble in water, but easily soluble in many organic solvents.
As a food additive, Citrus Red 2 has been used with FDA approval in the United States since 1956 to color the peel of some Florida oranges. Prohibited for use in our country.
