Children with dyslexia learn to read better if they learn to sing or play a musical instrument. The effectiveness of music lessons has already been confirmed.
60% of children aged 8 to 11 showed noticeable progress in learning to read. This figure was twice as high as in groups where children were engaged in other types of creativity, such as drawing or modeling. Psychologist Elena Flaugnacco, who conducted the research, explains this effect by saying that speech and music processing occurs in the same areas of the brain, primarily in the temporal lobes and in Broca’s area.1. These zones are responsible for the mechanics of speech, the search for correspondence between sounds, symbols and their complex combinations. The development of hearing and sense of rhythm while playing music allows you to better cope with these tasks.2.
