Dyber black cherry varieties
Black cherry is the most popular among other types of this tree. There is also yellow and pink. The dark red fruits contain the highest amount of anthocyanins, which are beneficial for humans.
There are a huge number of black varieties, among them there are heat-loving and cold-resistant ones, so you can choose the most suitable for each region. For the southern regions, “Melitopol Black”, “Valery Chkalov”, “Ruby Early” and “Napoleon Black” are suitable. The varieties are high-yielding, the fruits are tasty, but during frosty winters, trees often die.
For pollination of cherries “Black Daibera” are suitable varieties such as “Bigarro Gaucher”, “Zhabule”, “Ramon Oliva”, “Gedelfinger”
For more northern regions, “Black Leningradskaya”, “Fatezh” and “Mulatka” are suitable.
Popular varieties:
- Napoleon. The berries are dark red, large, weighing more than 6 g. The crop ripens at the end of June. From a tree, you can collect from 30 to 70 kg of berries.
- Valery Chkalov. The crown of the trees is spreading and dense. Cherry without shelter can withstand frosts down to -23 ˚С. The variety needs pollinating trees, bears fruit from the age of 5 years. The berries are juicy, weighing up to 8 g.
- “Black Prince”. Suitable for temperate climates. Fruits are black, sweet, ripen in mid-July.
- “Mulatto”. It is better to grow it in the central regions. The variety is resistant to frost and most diseases. The berries ripen in June, they weigh 5-6 g. Productivity – 20 kg per tree.
Most of the older varieties are prone to fruit rotting in rainy weather. In regions with high humidity, “Iput” or “Fatezh” should be grown.
Description of the cherry variety “Dyber black”
This variety was bred over 100 years ago. It is appreciated for its tasty and large berries, which can be eaten fresh or made from them to compotes and jams. The fruits have a good presentation.
The variety is fruitful. On average, 70-90 kg of berries can be harvested, the maximum figures are 170 kg.
The “Dyber black” has both advantages and disadvantages. It is thermophilic, does not tolerate severe frosts, does not bear fruit in regions where it often rains. Trees are often affected by fungal diseases.
Description of the variety:
- the skin and pulp are black and red;
- berries are large and juicy, weighing 6-7 g;
- the fruit has a flat surface, without tubercles;
- the pulp is sweet with sourness, it contains a lot of ascorbic acid;
- the bone is separated poorly.
The berries ripen at the same time in late June or early July.
All varieties of black cherry are self-fertile. Plant pollinators nearby to keep the trees bearing fruit.
