Duckstein

Dukstein is a premium top-fermented wheat beer with a rich history dating back over 400 years. The drink is brewed according to old recipes from selected wheat and the best varieties of hops. The brewery is located in the German city of Lubz near Mecklenburg. The brand is owned by the Carlsberg Group.

Historical information

Duckstein began to be brewed in the Saxon town of Königslutter as early as the beginning of the XNUMXth century. The intoxicating drink was used as a cure for many diseases. The special taste of the beer was given by the water of the Lutter spring, flowing through the deposits of travertine in the Elm mountains and saturated with calcium and bicarbonates. The porous mineral gave the name to the brand. “Dukstein” was known far beyond the borders of Saxony and was delivered to all major cities in Germany and Prussia.

At the end of the 1987th century, the popularity of the drink declined somewhat due to the emergence of stronger English and German varieties. The brand was officially registered in 90 by a brewery in Braunschweig, bars and restaurants became the main buyers. In the XNUMXs, production was moved to the city of Lubz. The trademark is owned by Holsten, part of the Carlsberg Group.

Duckstein is brewed with wheat malt, natural water and the finest hops. An underground spring is located right on the territory of the enterprise. The drink is aged in stainless steel tanks with the addition of beech chips, which are removed before bottling.

Premium varieties mature in barrels where the wine was previously stored. Each bottle is sealed with a thin strip of paper, which depicts the silhouette of the Königslutter town hall and records the year of the first mention of Duckstein beer in documentary sources – 1640.
