Pierre Dukan is a famous French nutritionist who developed the equally famous Dukan Diet. Weight loss with this method occurs in four stages – two are aimed at the actual weight loss, and two – to consolidate the result. The diet includes 100 foods that are considered permitted, and you can eat as many of them as you want.
Many people know the weight loss method developed by the French nutritionist Pierre Ducan. Now we invite you to find out about his new book. Power ladder: second front… It is a modernized alternative to the Ducan Diet and is gaining popularity as the New Diet.
Pierre Dukan was born in 1941 in Algiers (Algiers, French Algeria), then a French colony, but since childhood he lived with his family in Paris (Paris, France). In Paris, he trained as a doctor, and from an early stage of his career began to be interested in the problems of overweight and obesity. It is known that at first he was going to become a neurologist, but over time, nutrition took all his thoughts and time. So, he even published several scientific papers on neurology, but one fine day one of his patients heeded the advice of the neurologist Dukan and suddenly lost quite a lot of weight. At that time, Pierre knew only what was in his university course on healthy eating about nutrition, but he still took the liberty of advising the patient to eat more protein and drink more water.
Today, Pierre Dukan is a little over 70, but he is still very cheerful, actively travels around the world and meets his readers and followers.
It is also known that in 2012 he voluntarily left the French Order of Physicians (Ordre des Médecins).
Requirements of the new diet
By the first front, Ducan refers to the standard diet. The author advises to turn to the second front, first of all, for those who threw off the weight using the mentioned technique, but could not keep the achieved result and recovered again. Of course, you can turn to this method of losing weight for those who have not yet experienced the nutritional recommendations given by the eminent French specialist.
The new diet is a less strict protein weight loss technique than its original form. It is based on the fact that every day you can expand the list of allowed products.
So, on the first day, as on the first front, you need to consume only low-fat proteins with a minimum calorie content, namely: lean fish, meat, low-fat milk, small amounts of tofu cheese, and chicken eggs. On the second day, you can add your favorite vegetables (only non-starchy). On the third day, we dilute the diet with fruits and berries with a total weight of no more than 150 g, in which starch is also not present (it is recommended to focus on kiwi, pears, tangerines, oranges, apples, strawberries). On the fourth day, it is allowed to additionally eat a couple of slices of whole grain bread weighing up to 50 g, on the fifth day – a piece of unsalted cheese of minimum fat content, on the sixth – you can eat a cereal dish (some kind of cereal or legumes) weighing no more than 200 g ready-made. And on the seventh dietary day, the so-called festive meal is allowed, when you can eat whatever your heart desires. But try not to overeat or turn to a supplement. On this day, you can pamper yourself with a glass of dry wine. The indulgences of this day will help you lose weight with less psychological discomfort. After all, you must admit, it is much easier to give up your favorite forbidden food, realizing that you can eat it at least once a week.
On the New Diet, you should eat when you feel hungry, eating as many times as you need to feel comfortable, but without reaching a feeling of heaviness.
Just like on the usual Ducan diet, you need to constantly consume bran (one tablespoon of oat and wheat daily). Dukan also highly recommends not forgetting about physical activity and be sure to walk for at least 20-30 minutes every day.
As for the rate of weight loss, as a rule, on the new seven-day period, developed by Pierre Ducan, about 500-700 extra grams leaves the body. With a large excess body weight, more tangible losses are quite likely. Therefore, you yourself will determine the diet-timing, depending on how much you want to lose weight.
After reaching the weight you dreamed of, you can proceed, as on the first front of the Ducan diet, to the next stage called Consolidation… To consolidate the result obtained, it is worth sitting at this stage for 10 days for each lost kilogram.
The following products are allowed during this period. The daily diet should contain:
- – protein food;
- – non-starchy vegetables;
- – one fruit or a handful of berries (about 200 g), except for bananas, cherries and grapes; it is better to give preference to strawberries, raspberries, apples, peaches, watermelons, grapefruits;
- – 2 slices of whole grain bread;
- – 40 g of hard cheese.
You can eat up to 2 servings of cereals, legumes or durum wheat pasta per week. A portion means a 200-gram ready-made dish.
The following additions to the menu are also allowed, but no more than two items per day:
- – 1 tbsp. l. starch from corn;
- – up to 3 tbsp. l. skimmed milk powder;
- – 20 g of soy flour;
- – 100 g sorrel;
- – 100 g of lean sausage (preferably from poultry);
- – 1 tbsp. l. low-fat sour cream;
- – half a glass of soy yogurt;
- – 150 ml of low-fat soy milk;
- – 2 tbsp. l. Goji berries;
- – vegetable oil (just a little);
- – 150 ml of gazpacho soup;
- – 1 tsp soy sauce;
- – 3 st. l. dry wine;
- – 30 g of cheese with a fat content of no more than 7%;
- – 20 ml of fat-free sugar syrup;
- – 100 g rhubarb.
The rest of the food during the New Diet should be discarded. From drinks, in addition to copious amounts of water, you should drink tea and coffee without sugar. Ducan, as you know, does not deny the addition of sweeteners, but many other nutritionists advise not to get carried away with them, yet most of this type of product is rich in chemistry. There are no restrictions on salt intake. But, of course, you should not oversalt the products, giving preference to embellishing dishes with herbs and other non-nutritive additives of natural origin.
This phase is followed by the stage Stabilization, the basic rules of which have remained unchanged since the first variation of the nutritionist’s method. Now you can eat at your discretion, not forgetting about the principles of rational nutrition and, of course, not getting into serious food crimes. Continue adding bran to your diet daily. By the way, it is recommended to do this at the previous stage. Don’t forget to be active. Leave one day a week for pure proteins, when you should only eat low-fat cottage cheese and other sour milk, lean meat, fish and chicken eggs. This will reduce the likelihood of gaining weight again.
Example of New Diet Weekly Diet
Day 1
- Breakfast: baked chicken fillet.
- Snack: a few tablespoons of cottage cheese.
- Lunch: boiled fish.
- Afternoon snack: a glass of yogurt.
- Dinner: boiled beef.
Day 2
- Breakfast: cottage cheese seasoned with kefir.
- Snack: 2 boiled chicken eggs (or cooked in a dry pan).
- Lunch: baked fish fillet with permitted vegetables.
- Afternoon snack: tomatoes baked with cottage cheese.
- Dinner: boiled beef and empty cabbage and cucumber salad.
Day 3
- Breakfast: cottage cheese with half an apple and a glass of kefir.
- Snack: 2 boiled chicken eggs.
- Lunch: boiled chicken fillet.
- Afternoon snack: a glass of yogurt.
- Dinner: fish baked with kefir sauce and half an apple.
Day 4
- Breakfast: cottage cheese seasoned with kefir.
- Snack: a glass of milk.
- Lunch: boiled fish with whole grain bread.
- Afternoon snack: a glass of kefir and a slice of whole grain bread.
- Dinner: baked fish fillet.
Day 5
- Breakfast: an omelet of two eggs, steamed or in a dry skillet.
- Snack: a slice of hard cheese.
- Lunch: baked fish fillet and a glass of kefir.
- Afternoon snack: a portion of cottage cheese.
- Dinner: boiled beef.
Day 6
- Breakfast: oatmeal with milk.
- Snack: boiled chicken egg.
- Lunch: baked fish fillet.
- Afternoon snack: boiled chicken egg and a glass of kefir / milk.
- Dinner: lean beef stewed with low-fat kefir.
Day 7
- Breakfast: an omelet of two eggs and cottage cheese, cooked without oil.
- Snack: a glass of kefir.
- Lunch: festive (any food of your choice).
- Afternoon snack: a glass of milk.
- Dinner: a slice of baked fish and a couple of tablespoons of curd.
Contraindications to the new diet
- You cannot seek help from the New Dukan Diet for people who have serious diseases of the digestive system, liver, kidneys, other serious diseases or metabolic disorders.
- This technique is contraindicated for women who are in an interesting position, during breastfeeding, with violations (or not yet established) of the menstrual cycle.
- This diet is an undesirable way of transforming the figure with menopause and in the premenopausal period.
- You should not eat like this when planning a pregnancy. Lack of fat can lead to hormonal imbalances that negatively affect the health of the expectant mother and the bearing of the fetus.
- It is recommended to refuse the Ducan diet for people with various kinds of psychological problems (a tendency to depressive states, frequent mood swings, irritability, etc.).
- Before following this technique, it is strongly recommended to consult a qualified specialist and undergo a medical examination to minimize the risk to the body.
Benefits of the new diet
- You can eat as much food as you want (you don’t have to starve), you are not limited by the time of meals.
- The presence of protein in the diet, in which ketone bodies are present, contributes to a fairly rapid onset of satiety and its preservation for a long time, and also launches the speedy process of weight loss.
- With the correct completion of the diet, weight, as a rule, does not return.
- Sitting on the New Diet, you can eat tasty and quite varied, in contrast to the primary method of Ducan.
- Allowed food is much more at the beginning of losing weight. Surely there are dishes, products and their combinations that will suit your liking.
Disadvantages of the new Ducan diet
However, the New Diet and certain disadvantages were not spared.
- Many experts note that in it, as in the primary variation, Ducan offers a strong restriction on fat intake, which can cause malfunctions in the body. It can stop absorbing fat-soluble vitamins, which can interfere with the proper absorption of calcium and other very important nutrients.
- It’s not easy A new diet can be given to lovers of sweets, which are completely prohibited.
- The diet continues, as a rule, for quite a long time, because the weight does not go away at all with lightning speed. Therefore, be prepared for the fact that you will have to reshape your eating habits for a long time. Some of the principles of the technique, if you do not want to gain weight again, will have to be left in life for all the time.
- Do not approach and quickly get bored with a monotonous diet A new diet can be for those who do not like to cook.
Repeating the New Diet
Reapply to the New Diet if you want to lose more weight or gain a few extra pounds, with good health, it is recommended not earlier than 3-4 months after its end. However, you can try to cope with the second problem simply by using a little more protein-containing food in the menu or by increasing the number of fasting days.
