Dry, tight and thin. How to moisturize dehydrated skin?
Dry, tight and thin. How to moisturize dehydrated skin?

Our skin is mostly made up of water. Each day, a maximum of 300 to 400 milliliters should evaporate from it, if more evaporates – we are talking about dehydrated skin. The lack of water can lead to the disruption of various processes and damage to the elastin and collagen structure. What’s more, dehydrated skin ages faster, becomes flaccid and, as a result, has more wrinkles. How to recognize this type of skin in advance and how to eliminate it?

People with dehydrated skin feel mainly tightness. This type of skin is usually not very elastic, very thin, and after stretching, deformations remain on it for longer. Contrary to appearances, dehydrated skin can also become dry and oily. Due to poor knowledge about this type of skin, many people use the wrong skin care products, believing that they have oily skin. The use of aggressive face products only aggravates this condition.

The skin, then defending itself against the loss of the lipid coat, produces glands with more sebum, which is why the face becomes more shiny. Cera tries to “save” herself in this way. Then, often, a person trying to deal with this problem reaches for matting cosmetics, which worsens the condition of their skin.

Why is the skin dehydrated?

In each case, the causes may be different, depending on the place of residence, lifestyle, diet. However, the most common causes of skin dehydration include:

  • Diseases, e.g. atopic dermatitis, diabetes,
  • Climatic conditions, e.g. high insolation or strong wind,
  • Improper skin care,
  • hormonal changes,
  • Aging,
  • Difficult working conditions, e.g. at furnaces or refrigerators.

What is the difference between dehydrated skin and dry skin?

The main difference is in the epidermis. Dehydration is the result of poor water circulation in the deeper layers of the skin, while dryness indicates a disorder of the lipid barrier, in which cavities appear, and therefore water escapes and allergens penetrate it. The most common symptoms of dehydrated skin are:

  • tendency to dryness,
  • The tendency to get greasy,
  • thin structure,
  • Little flexibility.
