Blackcurrant, borage or evening primrose oil (internally). To keep skin well hydrated, the Dr Andrew Weil believes that gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) can help5. It is found in blackcurrant oil, borage oil and evening primrose oil. These oils contain essential omega-6 fatty acids. The Dr Weil recommends consuming 500 mg of black currant oil twice a day for dry skin. It is the most economical oil. In his experience, it would take 2 to 6 weeks for the benefits to become apparent.
Vitamin supplements. Many of the vitamins that come from our diet have a positive effect on the skin. However, it appears that in the case of vitamins taken in supplement form, only a tiny portion is directed to the skin. Vitamin supplements are therefore virtually ineffective in healing the skin.
