History of the dry martini
Cocktail Dry martini or dry martini is considered an elite drink for high society.
The reason for this is the long history of the drink, which has more than 150 years.
The first mention of this type of martini is found in 1862 in the reference book of the famous mixologist Jerry Thomas.
The book, in addition to the original Dry Martini recipe, also contains the story of how the drink was invented.
In the California town of Martinez, in one of the bars where Thomas worked, there were always many gold miners.
One of them, having entered the bar after a hard and successful day, asked the bartender to mix something new and unusual, promising a gold nugget as a reward.
Jerry quickly mixed gin and dry vermouth, which surprised and pleased the prospector very much.
This is how the cocktail known today as the Dry Martini was born.
American cinema also played a significant role in popularizing this particular version of the martini.
In almost every third film, the characters drink a dry martini or discuss its recipes.
Famous people such as Winston Churchill, Harry Truman and Ernest Hemingway are the most famous fans of this cocktail.
