Drink straws in Europe will now be made of paper

Internationally renowned packaging manufacturer Tetra Pak has announced that its European customers have begun pilot tests of paper beverage straws at their manufacturing sites.

“We are delighted to have been able to develop functional paper straws that meet international food safety standards. This is an important milestone in our strategy to create XNUMX% plant-based packaging. This step will contribute to the development of a circular economy with a low carbon footprint ”, Says Adolfo Orive, President and CEO of Tetra Pak.

The main advantage of straws made of paper is that they are recyclable along with the rest of the packaging. Initially, they will be supplied for two portion-sized cartons, which are usually filled with dairy products and drinks for children. And in the future, Tetra Pak plans to increase the volume of their production at a specialized plant in Lisbon.

It is noteworthy that the company intentionally does not intend to patent this development, since it is interested in the early appearance of as many suppliers of paper tubes as possible, which will increase the production of a new environmentally friendly solution.

We will remind, earlier we told, from 2021 Europe refuses from disposable plastic tableware and what threatens those who carry plastic to the beach in Israel.
