Dressing rooms: how to store clothes

Dressing rooms: how to store clothes

Every girl dreams of having not just a closet in which things are fighting for space, but a real dressing room. We will tell you how to turn what you want into reality.

The main character of the TV series “Sex and the City” loved beautiful clothes and shoes with the same passion as the mysterious Mr. Big. Carrie Bradshaw lived in a small studio apartment, there were no separate rooms except … a dressing room, and then a walk-through. And this is not even a room, but rather a corridor, which was located directly opposite Carrie’s bed and led to the bath, where, as you know, girls like to dress. Do you have a corridor? Use it as directed. And let it, like in the dressing room of the heroine of Sarah Jessica Parker, be a kind of chaos, but cozy and welcome.

Dressing room of the magazine “Podium”

The young journalist Andrea, played by Anne Hathaway in The Devil Wears Prada, never followed fashion, but even she lost her head when she got into the dressing room of Runway magazine. Here, endless meters of snow-white walls are highlighted with soft light and separated by fragile weightless partitions, where haute couture outfits, arranged according to seasons and collections, hang on each railing. Is there an extra room? Follow the same principle!

German fashion designer Dorothy Schumacher founded her fashion brand Schumaher in 1989. Today her name is familiar to everyone. This talented girl manages to work, to be a mother – she has four children, and with her crazy employment she always comes out in a way that is precisely verified to the smallest detail. Which, however, is not surprising. Recently, the designer opened the veil of secrecy and showed what her holy of holies looks like – the room in which Dorothy chooses outfits every day. Schumacher’s dressing room is like a window into a fairy-tale world. Each compartment with clothing is separated from each other by air arches resembling tree branches. It is worth taking note of this decor and getting down to business with imagination.

If you live in a house with high ceilings, you have every chance of turning a small narrow room or loggia into an endless dressing room. The main thing is to choose the right color scheme: give preference to light colors, place racks for shoes and lockers for clothes along the walls, and a row of banquets under the windows, they will serve as both a storage system and a convenient place for fitting.

A walk-in closet in an ordinary apartment is not necessarily a dark room a la closet. Even if the area is small, you can turn around on it. First, pay attention to the furniture, it should be in the same style, but completely different in functionality – open shelves with rails for long outfits, shelves for shoes, trousers and T-shirts, cabinets with glass doors for accessories, drawers for linen. The assortment of the whole store will fit here! Secondly, if you put the fitting bench not in the center of the room, but push it out to the window, you will get both space and a pleasant place for choosing outfits, you can sit down and take a look at the entire wardrobe at once.

Do you live in a small apartment? This is not a reason to give up your dream of having a dressing room. You just need to properly plan it. Instead of bulky cabinets with heavy doors, give preference to open multi-level and drawers of different sizes. A small corner wardrobe in light colors will decorate the room and will not take up much space.

If you have a vacation home, then you know perfectly well what is usually stored in the attic. Yes, yes, we are talking about all the trash and clothes that are a pity to throw away, but when you will wear it is unknown. So why not turn this store of forgotten items into a dressing room? All you need to do is get a stylish headset, throw a fluffy carpet or skin on the floor, put a comfortable chair, put things on the shelves, and this room will never be covered with cobwebs, you just don’t want to leave it.

Do you remember how the heroine of the film “The Chronicles of Narnia” got into a wonderful world? Through the closet! You can create your own fantasy fashion world at home. Even if the dimensions of the apartment do not allow you to allocate an entire room for outfits, nothing prevents you from building a dressing room inside the bedroom. And drywall walls will help with this. You will have to “grab” a piece of the room, but then you will have a dressing room that you have long dreamed of.

Many apartments have built-in wardrobes in the wall, and they look unattractive. So why not change that? Even the smallest wardrobe can become a wardrobe, if you bring light into it, remove a heavy door, and install compact drawers instead of dull shelves. And there will be room for the bench-bench.

Let’s imagine that you have no place at all. In a bulky closet, flying dresses suffer next to sweaters, things are crumpled, and there is no question of any sense of magic when choosing an outfit. Now put your closet away, completely! Install light shelving with storage systems in its place, hang a curtain rod, a beautiful curtain and draw it. Is it more spacious? Still would! And how nice it is to pull back the screen and see your compact, but such an ideal dressing room.
