Coronavirus in Poland. Managed to choke the third wave

On Saturday, the Ministry of Health announced 775 new cases of coronavirus and 125 deaths. On the last day, 62 were made. tests, and the percentage of positive results was 1,2 percent. These data were commented on by Dr. Konstanty Szułdrzyński from the Medical Council, a specialist in internal medicine, anaesthesiology and intensive care from the Central Clinical Hospital of the Ministry of Interior and Administration in Warsaw, in the Polsat program “Guest of the Events”.

– Managed to suppress the third wave, the restrictions took effect. We can enjoy freedom, but remember that the coronavirus is circulating around us, he said.

For comparison, he gave the example of Sweden, where the approach to the pandemic was very liberal, and now this country is struggling with a large wave of COVID-19 cases.

– There were no restrictions there and now there are many more infections in Sweden than in Poland. She didn’t introduce them and now she has many more infections than Poland. The pace of decline in the number of cases in Sweden is very slow, which means that in Europe there are the largest number of cases per population – said Szułdrzyński.

  1. Dr. Sutkowski: You can have fun wherever you can, but be careful

The expert noted that it was still too early to be able to talk about the end of the pandemic in Poland.

Vaccination should be compulsory

Dr. Szułdrzyński noted that vaccinations are necessary so that there is no need to introduce further restrictions in our country.

– There is no effective drug capable of eliminating the virus from society. SARS-CoV-2 can suppress vaccination and immunity in a significant number of the public. Then we will breathe a sigh of relief. The virus surprised us more than once, and the categorical forecasts made us not mockery, but doubts about what we know about it – noted a member of the Medical Council.

So far, over 19,5 million vaccinations have been performed in Poland. About 13,5 million people took the first dose. According to the Polsat guest, it is still not enough, especially since 70 percent of them expressed their willingness to vaccinate at the height of the third wave of the pandemic. Poles.

– A mere declaration, however, is not enough, you have to close the door behind you and march to the vaccination point – he said. – People, by not vaccinating, deny the existence of a pandemic. Our psyche works in such a way that if we are tired of something, we stop accepting it – he added.

  1. Prof. Flisiak: Nothing will convince anti-vaccines

Szułdrzyński also admitted that vaccination against coronavirus should be mandatory.

– If they are mandatory against tuberculosis why not against COVID-19? Coronavirus is much more dangerous to humanity. When our children are vaccinated, most people do not protest. When it comes to adults, there are screams of “freedom” – explained a member of the Medical Council.

The expert also noted that the so-called booster vaccinations and you will need to have them as well.

The Vietnamese variant – is it dangerous?

Prof. Konstanty Szułdrzyński also referred to the information about the so-called the Vietnamese variant of the coronavirus. According to the local health minister, a strain was discovered that is a mixture of an Indian and a British variant. It replicates very quickly and is responsible for the current surge in infections in Vietnam. Their number has doubled in the last month.

  1. New COVID-19 variant detected. It is a combination of British and Indian

– So far, it is not known that viruses escape immunity after vaccination. It is difficult to say what the Vietnamese variant will look like. This is a question for caricaturists, how to present the crossing of a British and a Vietnamese – he said.

The expert admitted that this variety will be characterized by high infectivity.

In his opinion, the Indian variant, which currently dominates in India and the UK. Britain, also in Poland, will supersede the British variant. And we are unlikely to avoid the fourth wave of the pandemic.

– Its size will depend on how many people are vaccinated and how aggressive the virus is. If the vaccinations go as planned, the youth will be vaccinated, the effect of returning to school will not be as severe as last year, and the growing number of new cases will not paralyze the health care system, Szułdrzyński said.
