There should be tapeworm lines to the vaccination points for a booster dose, and this should be done immediately – said the president of Warsaw Family Physicians, Dr. Michał Sutkowski, in an interview with PAP. He also noted that currently around 19 million people in Poland are actually immune to COVID-14.
«You have to really hurry up with the booster dose. Tapeworm lines to vaccination points in these shoots should be lining up, but I do not see it »- said Dr. Sutkowski.
He explained that it is illusory to believe that fully vaccinated people – and there are now nearly 21 million of them – are immune to the disease.
«It is a fiction that, for example, people who got vaccinated in February, March and April this year are still immune. The army of people who received vaccinations at that time is defenseless against the coronavirus, and this is not only about the elderly, but also about middle-aged people »- he noted.
- The doctor calls: one thing must be done before meeting with the family
He explained that in fact in Poland there are actually three groups – about 14 million people in total.
“Firstly, it’s about 6 million people who are vaccinated with three doses. Secondly, people who got vaccinated twice, but during the summer holidays. They still have immunity after this vaccination. This is also about 6 million. Third, immunity is found in people who recently contracted COVID-19 and contracted it a few months ago, up to a maximum of 6 months. This is another 2 million »- he said.
“This gives a total of 14 million people who are immune to the coronavirus at the moment,” he calculated, noting that in our country there are still 24 million people at risk of becoming infected.
“We have 24 to 14 in favor of the coronavirus,” he concluded.
- Christmas with “raging” Omicron. Expert: This is the worst thing we can do
At the same time, he warned not to underestimate the epidemic, because the situation is serious, although at the end of the year the infection statistics should slow down a bit. «Let us not pretend it will all go away. It is true that between Christmas and the New Year we can see a decrease in the number of infections and deaths, because the visible now is the aftermath of the peaks in cases of over twenty thousand two or three weeks ago. We will have some breath, but the Omikron variant will probably spread afterwards »- he noted.
He also appealed to vaccinate and protect, limit trips to Christmas and test before arriving in Poland, so as not to bring the virus on board the plane.
«Now, first of all, we should vaccinate and protect ourselves. Don’t go away for holidays if you don’t have to. Test yourself earlier than after arriving at the airport in Poland. I’m not saying not to celebrate, but let’s do it carefully. It really does not cost a lot ”, he appealed, warning at the same time that“ Omikron may become a huge problem in Poland in mid-January ”.
So far, 7 cases of the new variant of the coronavirus – Omikron have been confirmed in Poland. The ministry said Wednesday 18 new coronavirus infections have been detected and 021 people with COVID-775 have died – the most in the current wave of the pandemic. The number of those infected from the beginning of the epidemic has exceeded 19 million, and the deaths have exceeded 4 thousand. The number of deaths due to COVID-92,8 so far during the fourth wave of the pandemic was recorded on December 19. The health ministry said then that 15 people died of COVID-19.
