The picture of the danger facing Poland is provided by the epidemic situation in our southern neighbors, the reduction of restrictions in Poland and the appearance of the British coronavirus mutation in the country. We are at the beginning of the third wave – said the president of Warsaw Family Physicians, Dr. Michał Sutkowski in an interview with PAP.
The health ministry said on Monday that laboratory tests had confirmed 3890 new coronavirus infections. A week ago they were 2543 new casesand two weeks ago the research confirmed coronavirus infection in 2431 people. 45 patients died.
«There is a tendency, it is not a very large increase yet, but since the beginning of January there has been a decrease (…) of confirmed cases of infections and of course deaths, but here we have both confirmed cases of infections and we have more or less the same number of deaths. And we also have a situation in which more hospital places are occupied and a situation in which we have more people under a respirator »- calculated the president of Warsaw Family Physicians.
Dr. Sutkowski pointed out that our “southern, western” neighbors have a serious problem with a large number of cases, while in Poland – restrictions are reduced and at least 10 percent. cases in Poland are caused by the British variant of the coronavirus.

“This gives an image of the danger that lurks behind the door and we are at the beginning of the third wave” – he assessed. He expressed hope that there will be less cases than last fall.
When asked about the estimated maximum incidence in this wave, he admitted that it was impossible to determine it. “Our possibilities in this area are small” – he emphasized.
In the opinion of the expert, the population immunity is still “poor” due to the insufficient number of vaccinations.
When asked about the possible return of the children to school, he said: «It seems to me that it is out of the question for other age groups (from grades XNUMX-XNUMX of primary schools – PAP) to go to school. (…) I would rather not recommend it »- he emphasized. In his opinion, this is also not the best time to unfreeze other industries. “The whole of Europe is generally shutting down,” he added.
He pointed out that the key is to follow simple rules: wearing masks or keeping a distance. However, many people don’t. «As if we could not go beyond this gene of distrust towards all experts, authorities and people who know what it is, and (…) this is our worst vice at the moment, because then we have completely decadent attitudes. Everyone thinks that they know much better, and in a group – that’s for sure »- noted Dr. Sutkowski.
«If science cannot group people around it, I don’t see it. It is the worst from the very beginning of the Polish pandemic that even science – a universal and good tool for everyone, is not able to encourage people to reach for this tool »- he emphasized.
