I am not a supporter of the vaccination obligation for everyone, but I am in favor of the vaccination obligation for some professional groups that have direct contact with the patient, student or client – told PAP the president of Warsaw family doctors, Michał Sutkowski.
On Thursday, Deputy Health Minister Waldemar Kraska announced that the government is considering the possibility of introducing compulsory vaccination against COVID-19 for professional groups that have a lot of contact with people, such as health services, teachers and administration employees.
Referring to these announcements, Dr. Sutkowski stated that although he is not a supporter of mandatory vaccination for all, he supports the idea of mandatory vaccination for these groups.
“I am also in favor of profits for the vaccinated people and restrictions for the unvaccinated,” he added.

He noted that we are already dealing with the obligation to vaccinate against various diseases.
«If I want to have a scheduled operation, I have to get vaccinated at least twice against hepatitis B. If I want to work in health care, restaurants or in services, I need to have a Sanitary Inspectorate book and prove that I am not a carrier of certain bacteria. If I want to go to some countries, I have to be vaccinated against yellow fever, otherwise I will not be allowed in »- said Dr. Sutkowski.
According to the president of Warsaw doctors, “there should be a substantive discussion that will allow to determine what benefits may be for the vaccinated persons and restrictions for the unvaccinated”.
“These restrictions should not constitute restrictions on basic human rights, but in some cases, such as visiting a cinema or restaurant, it is necessary to consider such regulations. It is not surprising that such ideas arise in a pandemic »- he stated. He stressed that “public health is regulated by law”.
He added that he himself does not need to be persuaded to wear a mask when it can protect him from falling ill, but there are people who “do not understand the spirit of the pandemic”. “It is better, then, to order the wearing of a mask with the force of a high-ranking ordinance than to make someone depreciate the law that is to serve everyone in the face of a health risk” – he assessed.
According to the doctor, “we cannot live in the ticks of people who do not get vaccinated”. “These people act – however strongly it sounds – quite unpatriotic and antisocial. If someone gets vaccinated, he works not only for his health, but also for the health of others, as well as for the economy, normal social relations, education and many other spheres of life »- emphasized Dr. Sutkowski.
He stipulated that people who do not want to be vaccinated are discouraged from vaccination or are aggressive towards those promoting vaccination, “the common good is not at heart”. “I think there is a very large group that simply does not know what a pandemic is about, and therefore falls under the sphere of non-state activities” – he noted.
“Freedom is – you can get vaccinated or not – but you have to bear the consequences of your choice, whether you like it or not” – said Dr. Sutkowski.
He informed that nearly 97% of those who are vaccinated are currently vaccinated. doctors, about 80 percent nurses and 60 percent paramedics. He explained that the percentage of vaccinated technical and administrative staff in hospitals is slightly lower.
«I would encourage you to discuss compulsory immunization of health professionals. Let me remind you that it is already necessary to vaccinate medical workers against hepatitis B »- he added.
