The epidemic in Poland is getting worse. Is the “zero tolerance” policy proposed by the Minister of Health, Adam Niedzielski, a good idea? Should restrictions be stricter in the yellow and red zones? Dr. Michał Sutkowski, president of the Warsaw Family Physicians, talked about how to fight the coronavirus in an interview with Medexpress.
– I believe that after a short period of educating citizens, the law should be enforced. Effective action by the authorities, including the police and all other services, must be expected. The bus driver, passenger, shop assistant should not be afraid to pay attention to people who do not follow the orders. Failure to comply with the restrictions is outrageous. It’s high time to change that – says Dr. Sutkowski.
-People who do not wear masks are young people who say they will not get sick. However, they can be carriers and infect parents or grandparents, and even contribute to their death, the expert explained.
According to Dr. Sutkowski, the proposed restrictions that will apply in the yellow and red zones are sufficient.
— The situation with the current number of infections was predicted by us. I’m afraid there may be up to 5 infections a day. This is due to, for example, testing symptomatic patients, more tests. If there are more red and yellow zones than today, then more restrictions will have to be introduced – said Sutkowski.
– If we comply with the restrictions regarding, for example, organizing weddings, keep distance in the red and yellow zones, wear masks, maybe there will be no further restrictions – he added.

According to the president of the Warsaw Family Physicians, Poland is at a very special moment, because it is entering a period of increased infections.
– If the number of infections increases, we will indeed have a problem. I believe that the system of intermediate isolation between the house and the hospital does not work, thanks to which a lot could be arranged. Isolatories would reduce the burden on hospitals. The isolation system should be improved – explained Sutkowski.
– A new regulation on the possibility of testing by family doctors is very much needed. Drive-thru service hours for SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus testing need to be increased. The operation of sanitary transport and covid-swab ambulances should be improved. If we correct this, we have a chance not to follow the Italian trail. Otherwise it will be bad – added.
