Dr. Grzesiowski: three features of the Delta variant must be taken into account

The Delta variant is the most contagious of all the coronavirus strains known to date, it is spreading throughout Europe and other continents. In Poland, it is not as widespread as in the UK. Great Britain or even Germany, but by observing the course of the pandemic in these countries, we can take more targeted measures.

This was noticed by Dr. Paweł Grzesiowski, a pediatrician and immunologist, who regularly indicated on Twitter the need for changes in the approach to the pandemic. A few days ago, he wrote about allowing the mixing of COVID-19 vaccines in Poland.

Now he once again appealed to the minister of health on his profile. He identified three areas the government should focus on in tackling the coronavirus.

«The Delta variant, the most dangerous since the beginning of the pandemic, is rapidly spreading globally, which heralds serious problems in Europe and Poland. Necessary action based on new rules, taking into account the new features of the virus: airway, infections in children, large outbreaks»- wrote Grzesiowski, denoting Adam Niedzielski at the same time.

Is the appeal of dr. Grzesiowski will meet with an answer?

Not all of the immunologist’s statements appeal to the rulers. At the beginning of April, Krzysztof Saczka, acting as Chief Sanitary Inspector, accused Dr. Paweł Grzesiowski, committing a medical misconduct and requested that he be deprived of the right to practice. On June 28, Dr. Grzesiowski informed that the proceedings had, however, been discontinued.

Delta variant in Poland – Polish government late?

This is not the first time that a physician suggests specific actions related to the coronavirus to the Polish government or even criticizes it for being sluggish. Recently, doctor Bartosz Fiałek did it, referring to the entry by Mateusz Morawiecki.

On June 29, the prime minister published an entry in which he announced that the Delta variant is spreading around the world and gathered a special team to observe the mutation.

«The UK has the highest infection rate since the beginning of the year. Unfortunately, another variant of COVID-19, called Delta, is spreading around the world »- wrote Morawiecki.

  1. The Delta variant reaches more countries. Where is the most difficult situation?

«Already in January / February this year, I alerted the public by citing mathematical data from Fraser University (Canada) that showed how quickly the ALFA variant (B.1.1.7, first detected in Great Britain) could spread. Unfortunately, you did not hear my voice, and the ALFA variant of the SARS-2 coronavirus carefully used it, leading to the most lethal wave of COVID-19 in Poland so far »- commented on Facebook Fiałek.

“Really, Mr. Prime Minister, there is nothing to boast about that you are already starting to act, after all, you are publishing the entry on June 29, 2021, that is after more than 2 months of the DELTA variant functioning in the environment and … the media” – concluded Dr. Bartosz Fiałek.
