The New Polish Order announced on Saturday, May 15 by Law and Justice is largely based on changes in the healthcare system. Are these assumptions a “good change”? Dr Bartosz Fiałek comments on MedTvoiLokony.

- The changes are to concern, among others lifting the limits for specialist doctors

Dr. Fiałek: “Some assumptions of the Polish Deal program regarding the health care system sound promising”
According to Dr. Fiałka, some of the changes proposed by the government are a step in the right direction.
– Some assumptions of the Polish Deal program regarding the healthcare system sound promising – says the doctor in an interview with Medonet. – The abolition of limits in outpatient specialist care is a very good and necessary change. Months of queues to specialist doctors are the result of a lack of staff and disproportionate funding to the needs. Increasing funding leading to improved access to specialist clinics will enable us to diagnose and treat many disease entities much faster than before, which will reduce the number of complications.

The specialist also commented on the issue of the fund for the victims of medical malpractice, mentioned by Jarosław Kaczyński.
– At the outset, I suggest that we should not use the wrong nomenclature. We would deal with a medical error if we mistakenly administer incompatible blood or administer fluid in pulmonary edema. Most often we talk about undesirable medical events, because – as a rule – we save human health and life, but sometimes – it simply fails. Not because of our mistake, but because of the history of a given clinical condition – trauma, poisoning or acute or chronic disease – explains the doctor.
Is the idea itself good? According to Dr. Fiałka – yes.
– I believe that the introduction of a fund to cover adverse medical events is very necessary, because it will make sure that all side effects are not hidden, which will allow for the development of medicine in Poland and not duplicating unsuccessful medical procedures that were used to save human health and life, however, were not successful.
The New Polish Deal. What is going to change in the healthcare system?
The president of PiS, Jarosław Kaczyński, was the first to introduce the assumptions of the Polish Governance regarding health care in Poland on May 15. He said, inter alia, about increasing spending on hospitals, more emphasis on educating doctors, but also attracting specialists “from outside”.

In addition, the president of PiS also announced “great investment processes and repairs”, inspections of hospitals in terms of the quality of services, restructuring and “putting things in order” of the institutions. Kaczyński also spoke about the fund for the victims of medical malpractice.
The subject of changes in the field of health care was then developed by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, who announced, inter alia, abolition of limits to specialist doctors. This is to shorten the queues.
– We will pursue such a policy that the most motivated doctors, nurses, but also orderlies, stretchers, paramedics, and diagnosticians. Laboratory technicians – all health care workers – served us, all Poles, to the best of their knowledge, experience, and heart, added the Prime Minister.
