The purpose of this diet is to provide the body with complex carbohydrates, fiber, antioxidants and omega-3 fats. Its basic ingredient is linseed oil, known for its widely praised properties. Dr. Budwig’s menu seems quite simple and cheap. How is it really?
Johanna Budwig was a scientist who developed her diet over 60 years ago. Its main goal was to treat cancer and other civilization diseases:
- fatty liver,
- vascular diseases,
- digestive tract diseases,
- multiple sclerosis,
- skin problems,
- parasites,
- And the ailments associated with old age.
It is a low-carbohydrate diet, which is why it supports the treatment of metabolic syndrome, i.e. a disease of obese people, of which there is no shortage nowadays. Metabolic syndrome is manifested by abdominal obesity, hypertension, as well as inappropriate levels of lipids and sugars in the blood.
Doctor Budwig was a candidate for the Nobel Prize seven times for a reason. Already in the 50s, she talked about the existence of lifestyle diseases that were unknown at that time. The diet developed by her is considered today not only as a way to fight various diseases and cancer, but also as a form of restoring the body’s natural strength and at the same time – cleansing it of harmful substances.
Principles of the diet
The main principle of Dr. Budwig’s diet is to eliminate bad fats from the diet. For the first four weeks, the consumption of all animal fats and poor-quality vegetable fats (e.g. margarine) is prohibited. According to the author, they have a harmful effect on the body, and replacing them with absorbable oils such as linseed oil, coconut oil, wheat germ oil and occasionally olive oil will bring many health benefits. Good fats are an essential component of this diet. It is best if they are eaten with good protein, mainly low-fat cottage cheese.
Another rule is to eliminate certain products. And this is where the stairs start for many people – it’s hard to avoid some of these foods in modern foods, but of course it’s not impossible. It takes a bit of willpower and self-denial. In order for the diet to be effective, all flavor enhancers and preservatives must be removed from the menu. In addition, the following are prohibited:
- Highly processed products (soups and powdered sauces, fast food, sweets, etc.),
- Refined sugar – even the brown one,
- Artificial sweeteners.
Only organic and sustainable products are allowed. If our goal is to recover from the disease, it is very important to follow all dietary recommendations, without exception – products must be of organic origin and consumed at precisely defined times. This can be a nuisance for some people, because the daily schedule is written with an accuracy of the hour. The menu also includes… alcohol. What else will be useful with Dr. Budwig’s diet?
- organic linseed oil,
- flaxseed – ground immediately before consumption,
- White defatted cheese,
- sauerkraut juice,
- Coconut oil,
- Fruit,
- Fresh vegetables,
- Whole grain cereals and bread
- fresh ocean fish,
- Poultry and meat from organic farms (occasionally),
- 2 liters of water a day – spring, not mineral,
- In addition: honey, dried fruit, gluten-free groats, oat flakes, dry champagne and wine, dried and fresh herbs.
