Down with the superfluous: salt scrub for the body

Salt will remove stains on clothes made of delicate fabrics. Wash off the greens. Polishes glass. Helps with wasp stings. Meringue and cream with a tiny pinch of salt will be fluffier, and coffee will taste better. You can also make a salt scrub for the body from it.

Salt Body Scrub Features

There are days when you wake up, look out the window – and you realize that you want to do something for yourself. Read a book, watch the next episode of Downton Abbey… No, not that. Cooking eclairs or baking fish is also past. How about pampering yourself with a spa treatment? Take a bath, apply a salt scrub prepared with your own hands …

It certainly doesn’t sound very appetizing. Sugar in comparison with salt seems to be much more attractive. But it just seems to be true. Here are just a few of the benefits of a salt body scrub:

  • gently exfoliates dead skin cells;

  • makes the skin soft and silky;

  • whitens it, helps to lighten age spots;

  • reduces swelling;

  • massage movements with which it is applied stimulate blood circulation.

A sea salt body scrub is even more beneficial. Iodine, magnesium and iron included in its composition increase skin tone and accelerate metabolic processes in cells.

Compared to sugar, salt scrub seems less attractive. But it only seems.

Indications and contraindications

Expert L’Oréal Paris Marina Kamanina recalls why a scrub is needed at all: “The surface of the skin is constantly being renewed, dead cells must be exfoliated, and younger ones appear in their place. With age, this natural renewal slows down, cells partially accumulate on the surface of the skin, making it visually duller. Thus, in order for the skin to remain fresh and radiant, it is necessary to periodically cleanse it of dead cells, and a scrub is perfect for this.

As for the salt scrub from sea or table salt, it can be used when necessary:

  • deep cleanse the skin;

  • correct its relief (such a scrub perfectly polishes the skin, it becomes soft and smooth);

  • whiten the skin, lighten age spots;

  • expel excess moisture, due to which edema appears.

Do not use a salt scrub if:

  • there are irritations, rashes, abscesses, scratches and generally any damage on the skin – the procedure can increase inflammation, provoke skin infection;

  • you have dry sensitive skin.

How to use salt scrub at home

We give a step-by-step algorithm – for those who will perform the procedure for the first time.
  1. For more efficient procedure it is better to steam the skin before applying the scrub. You can take a bath or shower. You can simply use a compress – moisten a towel with warm water and apply to cleansed skin for 5-7 minutes.

  2. Apply the scrub to damp skin in gentle circular motions. Do not rub or stretch the skin, do not injure it. The movements should be light, you should not feel uncomfortable or hurt.

  3. If you experience discomfort (for example, the skin begins to pinch, it is very reddened or irritated), immediately wash off the composition with warm water. If there is no discomfort leave the scrub on for 2-5 minutesand then rinse. It is impossible to keep the salt composition on the skin for more than 10 minutes!

  4. Use a salt scrub 2 times a week.

Salt scrub is the easiest of those that can be prepared at home.
