Don’t pick the lilacs! It may be dangerous

Many people often strive to please themselves with a bouquet of beautiful flowers. It’s easy and very affordable – lilac bushes grow in almost every yard. However, few people know that these actions can significantly harm them. Experts answered the main question – why.

They say that if you cut off the flowers on the bush well, the next year the harvest will be better. On the one hand, this is true, but only if the sanitation is carried out by specialists using special sterile pruning shears. Often people, picking off branches, simply spoil them with their hands, leaving long creases. Experts believe that this is very dangerous for the plant.

It is in these holes that pathogenic bacteria can enter, which will destroy the lilac. The shrub may stop bearing fruit. Often in the city center we see the following picture: only the top of a lilac bush bears fruit, since everything else has been cut off and there may be no harvest in the next season either.

“Fungal spores can infect lilacs and kill a branch or even an entire plant. Pruning lilacs can only be done with a clean pruner and sealing the wound with garden pitch. This is a rule for caring for lilacs, because it is a very delicate plant, ”said Alexandra Medvedeva, an employee of the cultural and educational center of the BIN RAS, in an interview with “Petersburg Diary”.

Thus, experts urge people not to pick the lilac, thereby exposing the plant to injuries during the period when it is most vulnerable. It is much more pleasant to admire beautiful shrubs in natural conditions than in a vase at home. Moreover, in just a few days the branches will still have to be disposed of, and in their natural environment they will delight the eye for the entire flowering period.
