Does the interior of the house make us fat?

What mistakes do we make when we think over the interior of an apartment? What do we do wrong when we live in it for more than a year? Dietitians understand.

If we choose the right environment for an apartment or house, it will benefit the figure, scientists say. Over the years, they have researched the causes of excess weight and found that the place where we rest, relax and feel safe can affect the number of extra pounds and centimeters of the waist. And it’s not so much about the kitchen, but about seemingly insignificant little things like curtains. We present eight mistakes that we make when choosing the interior of the house, and pay for them with excess weight.

1. There are a lot of goodies in the cabinets

“A pack of cookies, sugary cereal, chocolate, crackers hidden in the kitchen cabinet can undermine any diet,” warns nutritionist Christine M. Palumbo. “Just knowing these treats are within walking distance makes us crave them even more. This is especially dangerous in the period from three in the afternoon to ten or eleven in the evening. At this time, our body seems to require a snack and extra calories. The only way to solve this problem is to get rid of your favorite goodies forever. Do not raise a hand to throw out a full box of cookies? Divide it into portions of 100 grams and imagine that each small bag contains about 300 calories, which is 40 minutes of the “ellipse” in the gym … This information will help stop even on the approach to the treasured locker.

2. The bedroom is too bright

Scientists from Oxford University have established a link between the quality of sleep at night and being overweight. It turns out that people who sleep in a completely dark room have a 21% reduced risk of obesity. But those who do not draw the curtains (especially if the windows overlook the metropolis shining with lights), on the contrary, are prone to gaining extra pounds. The lighter in the bedroom, the worse our body produces the sleep hormone melatonin. This means that the quality of sleep deteriorates sharply, which leads to problems with being overweight. Familiar situation? Purchase blackout curtains or opaque blinds.

3. There is more than one gadget in the bedroom

Try not to sit in bed with a laptop and tablet. Better yet, leave them outside the bedroom. The blue light emitted by the screens of these devices interferes with the production of the sleep hormone melatonin. If you keep, for example, one phone in the room, you increase the risk of obesity by 1,47 times, and if you have three devices on the nightstand by the bed, you increase the risk by 2,57 times.

4. Dishes of the wrong color

It turns out that the color of the plate directly affects the amount of what we put in it. Researchers at Cornell University (USA) conducted an experiment: they invited people to eat Alfredo pasta from white and red plates. Those who chose white dishes served themselves 22% more spaghetti than those who chose red plates. The stronger the contrast between the color of food and dishes, the smaller the portion.

5. Storing fruit in the refrigerator

If you put healthy food away in your cupboard or refrigerator, your chances of eating it decrease. Since fruits don’t need to be refrigerated, don’t rush to put them out of sight! Take a large, beautiful plate and put juicy grapefruits, apples, oranges and pears in it. If these tempting and healthy treats are on display, you will forget about cookies and sweets.

6. Lack of morning light

If we don’t get enough sleep, hunger makes us crave fatty and unhealthy foods. And this is only exacerbated if the bedroom is too dark in the morning. Without a proper portion of light after waking up, the level of the hormone leptin, which is responsible for feeling full, decreases in our body. Get into the habit of first pulling the curtains on the windows, and if it is still dark outside, turn on the light, and not be content with the light of a night lamp or floor lamp.

7. There are too many TVs in the house.

There is only one TV in the apartment. Moreover, nutritionists do not recommend putting it in the kitchen – this provokes us to spend more time there. And, as a result, eat more and more often. Not to mention that the more we watch TV, the less we move. A working TV as a background is an unfortunate solution. It is better to study the program and watch only what you cannot do without.

8. Too cozy living room

If the living room has a large cozy sofa with a dozen pillows and blankets, a soft carpet and a large TV set, this can harm not only the figure, but also health. In such an interior, immediately after dinner, they lie down on the sofa and get up only to get into bed! If we keep the number of movements to a minimum, then the risk of diabetes and obesity will become high.
