How can diet affect gastritis? Is it possible to improve the condition of the stomach by using an easily digestible diet? Do you have to follow the diet for a certain period of time? Do you have to give up certain dishes forever? The question is answered by the drug. Paweł Żmuda-Trzebiatowski.
How does diet affect gastritis?
Hello, recent health problems meant that I am obliged to go on a restrictive diet. I don’t really like it, because I have always liked to eat it specifically, appreciating spicy spices and a distinct taste. Meanwhile stomach problems and visits to the doctor make it clear to switch to an easily digestible diet. Does diet really affect gastritis so much? Will I be able to prevent the next one by sticking to the right diet relapses of gastritis? Should this diet only be followed for a while?
If so, by what? And if not, should I give up spicy spices and my favorite pork chop for the rest of my life? The doctor recommended boiled or baked dishes – no fried and hard to digest. I don’t feel like believing that the diet had such an impact on gastritis. Is it true? And what does drinking alcohol look like after gastritis? Should I give it up completely? Or only for a while, until the test results normalize and improve? Regards.
The doctor advises what the diet for gastritis should look like
Dear Mr. Spicy foods, hard-to-digest dishes and stimulants irritate the stomach wall, which may increase pain and prolong treatment. I wish you had written what the cause of your condition is. The most common cause are infectious agents, especially the bacterium Helicobacter pylori, which is also responsible for the formation of ulcers. The second most frequent are toxic factors damaging the mucosa, mainly alcohol, bile, drugs, especially non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). The rarest cause gastric mucosa infections there are autoimmune factors, i.e. situations when the body produces antibodies against its own cells.
A proper diet is very important in the treatment of gastritis. As you mentioned, it is easily digestible. Food that is difficult to digest, fried, fatty and grilled should be avoided. Stimulants such as cigarettes, alcohol, coffee and even tea must also be absolutely discontinued. As I wrote above, NSAIDs can cause gastritis, so beware of their use, especially ibuprofen, ketoprofen and naproxen.
In addition to the diet, the doctor may also recommend the use of drugs from the group of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), which reduce the acidity of gastric juice while reducing the severity of symptoms. In the case of confirmed Helicobacter pylori infection appropriate antibiotics should be used.
Of course, such a restrictive diet is required primarily for the duration of the treatment, then you will be able to slowly introduce other products to your menu, but I would still advise you to give up fatty, unhealthy foods. The same goes for alcohol, especially for spirits. Please take into account the fact that, despite proper treatment and adherence to diet, gastritis may recur.
