What does endometrial hyperplasia indicate? Is this a definite symptom of endometriosis? What other diseases can endometrial hyperplasia indicate? The question is answered by the drug. Katarzyna Darecka.
Does only endometriosis cause endometrial hyperplasia?
Good day. This is Krystyna (29, Warsaw). For some time now I have been struggling with abdominal pain that returns at completely unexpected moments. Sometimes I feel that pain also appears in the ovaries and radiates to the anus. At first I didn’t take it very seriously because I thought it would pass. However, when I started menstruating painfully and profusely, and there was bloody discharge between periods, I went to see myself. It turned out that I have endometrial hyperplasia. To be honest, I was a bit afraid of it, because there were also such cases in my family.
Nevertheless, does the mere fact that I have endometrial hyperplasia automatically mean that I have endometriosis? It seems that one does not always have to follow from the other? I’ve read a bit about it and apparently endometrial hyperplasia can also occur in other diseases – is that true? It is said that the unequivocal statement that we are dealing with endomentriosis is also so easy, because even less dangerous diseases or just some infections in the body may have similar symptoms.
I would also like to add that I live under constant stress. I work with demanding clients on a daily basis and I often have to react to it. Maybe it is the cause of endometrial hyperplasia? Speak soon. Kamil.
The doctor explains what the endometriotic hyperplasia indicates
Endometriosis is a medical condition in which the lining of the womb is found outside the womb. There is also a type of endometriosis called endometriosis, where the lining of the womb, which physiologically lines the uterine cavity, is present within the muscular layer of the womb. On ultrasound, however, adenomyosis is no different than endometrial hyperplasia.
Endometriosis affects 6-10% of women of reproductive age, most often it affects women between the ages of 20 and 44. Symptoms include painful menstrual bleeding or pelvic pain not related to the cycle, reduced fertility or infertility, dyspareunia, i.e. pain during intercourse, pain in the lateral part abdominal cavity, abnormal bowel movements, pain in the rectum, rectal bleeding, feeling of fullness. The diagnosis is never based on the patient’s clinical assessment alone, and some diagnosis can only be made on the basis of the histopathological examination of the lesion excised during laparoscopy. It can also be confirmed with certainty by means of an ultrasound examination, which shows the presence of peritoneal implants with a characteristic sonographic appearance.
Endometrial hyperplasia (hyperplasia) is something other than endometriosis, they are by no means the same disease. Endometrial hyperplasia is found when the endometrium is thicker than normal. Endometrial hyperplasia although it is not a cancerous condition, in some women it is preceded by maternal cancer. That is why it is so important to provide the doctor with a family medical history. Endometrial hyperplasia is often caused by too much estrogen, not infected with progesterone. During a short procedure, the doctor may collect the overgrown endometrium and send it for histopathological examination. The histopathological result usually determines the further management.
Hormonal disorders that may cause hyperplasia are caused by various factors, e.g. entering menopause, contraceptive therapy or estrogen-only hormone replacement therapy, or as a side effect of a drug used to treat breast cancer (tamoxifen).
It is worth asking your gynecologist about further treatment and the probable cause of endometrial hyperplasia.
