What does an elevated OB rate indicate? What does the OB height indicate? Does elevated ESR indicate cancer? Should the ESR result be associated with cancer? The question is answered by the drug. Paweł Żmuda-Trzebiatowski.
Does a high ESR blood test result indicate cancer?
Hello, I’m 49 years old, I’m a woman still working professionally. For some time, however, I feel unwell and decided to do the necessary research. The doctor ordered a basic morphology and ESR. OB result he came out much raised. Apart from muscle aches and low mood, however, nothing serious bothers me. I don’t think I have a cold or flu infection. By searching reasons for the elevated OB result However, I came across some very disturbing news that I would like to confirm or deny.
Namely, I’m interested in whether increased ESR does cancer mean? Is it possible to associate increased ESR with cancer at all? The news made me sit down. I was very nervous. I don’t suffer from anything chronically. I usually go through a cold mildly, so I can’t understand why this high ESR came from, what could be the cause of the increased ESR. I am asking for help. Does increased ESR mean cancer? Could elevated ESR be related to cancer? What tests should I do now? Thank you in advance. Regards.
The doctor indicates the causes of elevated ESR
Madam, Biernacki’s reaction (ESR) is a simple and publicly available assessment study the fall rate of erythrocytes from the blood sample. Importantly, ESR is a imprecise examination, so it can only be a component of the diagnosis of specific disease states. The main indication for ESR is the suspicion of a chronic inflammatory disease, primarily connective tissue disease or infection. In the case of acute inflammations, it is preferable to test CRP protein or procalcitonin when a bacterial infection is suspected. OB is also used to monitor the course of the inflammatory process.
Regarding causes of accelerated ESR the most common are the aforementioned inflammations, including rheumatological diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis or systemic lupus erythematosus, but also various types of injuries, surgery and cancer. Of particular concern is the three-digit ESR value, which may suggest the presence of neoplastic disease, including multiple myeloma or lymphoma. It is worth remembering that ESR can be “physiologically” accelerated in pregnant women and in the puerperium.
It is a pity that you did not write down the specific results you received. I suggest that you go to your family doctor who will order further diagnostics. It is definitely worth repeating the test in order to exclude the possibility of a laboratory error. Additionally, your doctor may order other inflammatory markers to be tested, including CRP. If the primary care physician exhausts his diagnostic capabilities, you will be referred to a specific specialist – which one depends on the suspicions the doctor makes.
