Does apple cider vinegar help you lose weight? We review the latest research!

Very often in the media related to a healthy lifestyle, slimming and health, the topic of apple cider vinegar appears as a special, natural slimming agent. However, are these reports true and scientifically confirmed? Today, we’re going to tackle just that topic!

What do we know about apple cider vinegar?

It is a vinegar made from apples. It is naturally used in cooking as a preservative. Sometimes apple cider vinegar is also used as an interesting and aromatic spice for some dishes. Only recently, apple cider vinegar has gained popularity as a natural slimming aid.

Benefits of eating apple cider vinegar

  • It can really help burn fat, because the components contained in apples contribute to the splitting of fats. However, it is not known how strong they work after processing the apples into apple cider vinegar. It seems that a better idea would be to simply eat a fresh, juicy apple
  • Apple cider vinegar stimulates the secretion of gastric juice: it’s true. Thanks to this, the body speeds up its metabolism, and the food eaten is digested and processed faster. However, apple cider vinegar can irritate the stomach too much, and this, in addition to stimulating the secretion of gastric juices, can lead to the formation of gastric ulcers

What do scientists say?

Apple cider vinegar in the publication Common Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss written by four doctors of Harvard University was assessed as a substance with unspecified effects, which cannot be clearly assigned to one of the groups of slimming substances based on patient reports or “alleged” effects published in the media. This may indicate two things. First of all, apple cider vinegar is not yet such a well-known recommended substance as slimming. And secondly, the lack of clinical, reliable and scientific research cannot rule out this substance as really affecting the digestive system. The authors of this article note, however, that apple cider vinegar, due to its origin, has many useful vitamins and elements.

A diet rich in fruit

It is known, however, that a diet rich in fruits and vegetables promotes weight loss. Apple cider vinegar is therefore an organic and natural substance that can promote weight loss. Perhaps its effect is not direct, but it also does not have noticeable negative effects when apple cider vinegar is not abused.

In addition, Jeanelle Boyer and Rui Hai Liu note that a diet rich in fruit reduces the risk of many diseases, including some cancers. Apples are considered rich sources of phytochemicals. Their consumption is associated with a reduced risk of some cardiovascular diseases, asthma, diabetes and cancer. Slimming and diet with apple cider vinegar are therefore relatively safe, but from the scientific point of view, they have not yet been fully investigated.
