When should a growth on the skin be excised? What could a brown growth on a newborn’s cheek be? Can such a change on a child’s skin be a symptom of dangerous neoplastic diseases? The question is answered by the drug. Paweł Żmuda-Trzebiatowski.
Should a dark growth on a child’s cheek be cut out?
Good day. I am a mom of a week old daughter. Unfortunately, the daughter was born with brown growths on the skin of the face. I am devastated by this fact, the more so that this brown growth is located on my daughter’s right cheek and is quite large and protruding. The pediatrician referred us to a pediatric surgeon and dermatologist to assess what the growth on the skin was. No one in my husband or my family had any skin problems. Could this growth be a sign of melanoma, but is it possible in such a small child, even a newborn? Please let me know what this growth on the child’s skin can be?
I am terrified that if I do not take the right steps to remove this growth from my daughter, she will be stigmatized all her life. How can I get rid of this growth on my face? Is this a growth on the skin needs a cut? Can it be removed by laser or only surgically? Could there be any scar left on her? I am desperate and determined to take all steps to remove the growths from my daughter’s facial skin. I am asking for directions, heartbroken mother.
The doctor explains what the growth on the baby’s cheek can be
Ladies and Gentlemen, unfortunately, I am not able to say on the Internet what exactly is the skin lesion occurring in your daughter. Most likely it is mild pigmentary change, but on the basis of the description alone, I am not able to define it. Some birthmarks that occur in newborns and infants from birth very often disappear in the further development period. Unfortunately, when it comes to brown birthmarks or the color of coffee with milk, they do not disappear and remain for life.
Of course, as the child grows, they do not have to increase, but it is not excluded. If specialists confirm the diagnosis, such moles should only be observed, they should not be surgically removed, especially if they are large, because this way the child can be mutilated, leaving scars for life. In the case of skin lesions in newborns, other types of moles should also be considered.
The birthmark is pale pink also called salmon, it can occur in up to 70% of newborns. Most often they are located on the faces. Importantly, they are not dangerous for the baby, but in the case of emotional arousal, for example when crying, they can take on a darker shade. They become less visible with age. The purple lesions are rare, they can be ordinary squamous hemangiomas of little importance to the baby, but they can also suggest the presence of a genetic disease called Sturge-Weber syndrome.
In this case, the skin lesion is generally large in size and resembles a blotch of wine red color. Strawberry color marks are also worth mentioning, which may also indicate the presence of hemangiomas. In most cases, they disappear by the age of four. As it is easy to see, there can be many types of skin lesions in newborns. They should always be consulted with a specialist.
